At the very end when Cortana says "Halo... It's finished..." I clapped

I played this as a multiplayer campaign with my friend. It was very engaging and fun for the most part, with the different vehicles, weapons, enemy types, and challenges constantly keeping the playthrough fresh. That is, until Mission 7 where the latter half of the game isn't as sharply designed, with long repetitive sections of shooting through groups of enemies in a hall or simply retreading an old level. Plus, the Flood enemies can sometimes feel a bit too damage-sponge-y and take really long to take down.

The feeling of the earlier levels, the story, and the high of racing to the end in the Warthog was such a blast though, that I need to give this game credit for it. I'd recommend playing this with a friend, undoubtedly.

Played this on the 360 back in 2020, and I didn't like it. It goes on way 2 long and the flood sections are hella annoying and a slog to get through. Even the multiplayer is wack.

Great time all around but the library was doo doo

This game was peak gaming upon release and had amazing lan parties with 16 people at the house. Great times

A decent FPS especially for its time, but once the Flood show up this game ups the difficulty like crazy. The last half of the game was so difficult even on normal that we had no choice but to just run past most enemies, and even that was tough to do.

It's merely serviceable but the excrutiating level design that feels like a loop of the same assets over and over, with the annoying ass input lag as the second person in co-op makes this just a frustrating ass experience. Skipping for now.

Halo CE is a classic which completely revitalized the FPS genre when it released in 2001. The game still stands up today with a compelling story, interesting levels, and multiplayer mayhem.

Halo: Combat Evolved is a game I definitely felt like I need to play at some point just do to how massive the series' impact has been on gaming and just culture in general, but I can't help but feel waiting 23 years to play it may have hurt the experience a little. There wasn't much in it that felt special compared to what i have played before, but again that is probably due to the influence this had on other games that came after it. Looking at Halo through the lens of it coming out in 2001 I can see what made it so special. It just didn't do a lot for me other than be a decent shooter. I know that the series will get even better from here on out so I am excited to play those at some point as well.
