kind of like if the ps2 startup screen got made into a video game

Tetris Effect:
I'm yours forever
There is no end in sight for us
Nothing could measure
The kind of strength inside our hearts
It's all connected
We're all connected in this love
Don't you forget it
We're all connected in this love

Me, not leaving a space for the square piece: Shit! Fuck!

me and my bf got way too high last nite and played this for the first time this year while listening to new uzi. love this game, love uzi, new album so good, the nicki verse is so funny lol
I have over seventy hours logged in this nerd emoji

It's great, especially the song on the first and last levels. (Particularly that first song, Connected (Yours Forever)) It's convinced me to play more Tetris. It's also cool to think of Tetris as an indie game since it was made not by a company but by one person. That's very impressive. I'm in between giving this game a 5/5 just because I wish there were more pop songs like the first and last songs in the Journey mode. Perhaps I will change it to 5/5 later, but who knows.

Right straight out of the gate, the majority of players will understand if they’ll enjoy Tetris Effect or not. The core has been around practically since the inception of gaming and I wager that most, if not all players have interacted with the brand enough to understand if it’s their thing or not. If you already know you don’t like Tetris, this isn’t for you. But to everyone else, the open-minded, the casuals, and the hardcore players… I say this is perhaps the best iteration of Tetris we can play.

I’d like to believe I live amongst the casual players of Tetris. After all, I don’t normally derive enjoyment from competitive play (unless we’re remarking about my 50 hours in Tetris 99), as my fun is mostly had through pushing myself to my own limits as I race against my mind, the game, and my old scores. The zen-like flow I can get into during intense sessions of Tetris is the chase that I ascribe to. It’s the chase I’ve been following since I first played Tetris. I’d like to think that chase is something casual players of Tetris go for, but after about 60 combined hours alone in this version of the game do I really still believe I’m just a casual enjoyer? I’ve had dreams and daydreams of the tetriminos falling neatly into place after longer obsessive bursts of playing Tetris, is that really still where I should classify myself?

I’ve played a lot of versions over the years, but Tetris Effect has hit me like no other iteration has. I played through the journey mode thrice on PSVR. At least 4 or 5 more times when it was ported to Nintendo Switch. Half a dozen on top of the rest through my SteamDeck and computer. So, I’ve beat the journey mode at least once per difficulty per console I’ve played it on. What makes Tetris Effect so compelling? Why do I keep coming back? What makes it so special?

The answer, while undeniably subjective, is that Tetris Effect focuses on that zen state that I’ve always been searching for. They want you to get into a rhythm, as each shift and rotation of tetriminos releases a harmonic accompanying sound effect on any stage you play. The “ZONE” mechanic, stopping time, allowing for as many line clears as possible in a short window, begs you to clear an entire screen, while you’re lost in the Tetris sauce. Every stage of Tetris Effect feels tailor-made to get your full attention, and consequently, this attention is converted into micro amounts of that zen-state until you reach perfectris.

It’s wild how much the interactivity of the sound effects and the progressive music tracks add to your experience. It’s all great music, and every stage feels amazing to play. Even music I wouldn’t normally listen to is awesome because of how much of an influence your gameplay has on the music tracks.

For those who are looking for a different kind of challenge, Tetris Effect contains all sorts of different head-to-head game modes, including a choice few that will restrict the game mechanics to the original Tetris ruleset. So even if you’re not looking for that solo experience or even the base Tetris Effect experience, you can play old-school Tetris as it was. While it’s a given, I should point out that there is included a Tetris Effect, zone-enabled PvP mode as well as others. In regards to other online modes, there is also a co-op PvE mode that faces you and two other players up against a big bad boss (occasionally controlled by players during certain weekend events). The developers made sure there are plenty of ways for you to connect with other players if that’s the type of Tetris experience you’re looking for.

All in all, it would be hard for me to not recommend it, which shouldn’t come as a surprise from the man who has purchased three separate copies of this game. It has something for every type of player. It’ll bring you peaceful waves of zen as you embrace the rhythmic fall of tetriminos, and frenetic exhilaration as you compete against yourself and opponents across the world. For me, it’s one of my personal favorite games to play when I just want to spend some time chilling, as I take a break from the world and every problem that comes along with it. I really hope you give Tetris Effect the chance to have the same effect on you.

A celebration of humanity as a whole. We are all truly connected.

Music make me lose control

As cool as this was, and I don’t blame anyone for completely disagreeing with me… I’d rather just play the most basic Tetris possible. The spectacle is fun to look at but it kind of gets in the way. Even the classic mode has some extra flair to it which is fine, but just doesn’t do it for me like the simple presentation of the Game Boy version. I might also just be coping because I suck at this, but I was able to beat the Journey and I’ll be playing the online modes for a while because I see myself slowly improving. I also played some couch co-op and the boss fight mode was neat, specially how all your boards connect (boards? fields? grids?). Anyway, I’ll play this if I want a tactile, immersive experience, but I’d pick up my Analogue Pocket if I just want to play Tetris.

20% of the levels are tolerable but 80% are in nauseatingly bad taste. Tackier than the average piece of TV advertising. And stupid to such an extent that even with my low opinion of Gamers the critical response to this game still surprises me. Fine idea, abject execution.

i love tetris so much and this game brings it home. i want to devour the atmosphere in this game. fun to say nonetheless.

Its tetris but on acid

Initially, I questioned whether it was worth buying this game during the Steam Spring Sale. "It's just Tetris", I thought, "You can play it online for free."

Not only is this by far my favorite version of Tetris, it's an experience unlike any other game I've played. The visuals and sound design are breathtaking on their own, but combined with the tense gameplay of Tetris, they instantly put you in a zen-like state of dropping pieces, lining them up, and planning out your next moves. Honestly, I think it's a concept that can only work as a Tetris game; since the game is so easy to understand and so widely known, the game can focus entirely on creating a sensory experience and tapping into what makes the game so much fun in the first place.

Also, it just feels amazing to play, with responsive controls, all the QOL features from past iterations of Tetris, and a plethora of modes to test the limits of your skills. And even if you're not into that, there's a completely faithful recreation of NES Tetris available from the get-go, showcasing a further understanding of the game's legacy. It is absolutely worth the 20 dollars I spent on it, and I would recommend anyone who remotely likes Tetris to do the same.

It's funny that I bought Humanity and Tetris Effect on the same day. Apparently, they have the same publisher and the same composer.

I've never been a Tetris person, maybe because EVERYONE around me used to play it in childhood.
Here I was attracted not by a new take on Tetris but rather by a lot of good words that I heard about the music in this game and I was looking for a puzzle game.

Can't add much to the Tetris aspect here, but the music is GOOD and as an overall experience - it's super satisfying. If you're not sure - get it on Sale.
It's a good pace changer between souls-like, new boring AAA games and cheap indies.

Beautiful and transcendent experience from start to finish. The abstract visuals are stunning and endlessly creative and each stage evolved in ways that had me constantly surprised and in complete awe. Most of the levels have music cues that coincide with your actions yet they always feel like a deliberate part of the composition somehow and I have no idea how that's even possible. This game feels like playing Tetris as a god, the first and probably last time a Tetris game will ever make me cry.

The most beautiful way you could ever play the classic game of Tetris! Everything from the visuals to the soundtrack is just absolute perfection. I find myself very regularly coming back to this game and running through a few levels to blow off steam, but often play more than just a couple levels, and rather try to set new records for myself or get as far through the campaign in a single life. Do yourself a favor and pick this game up when you can, it's an amazing experience! Only reason that I don't give this game 5 stars is because nothing draws me back for more than a week at a time every 2 months or so, which isn't even the games fault, I just wish I found more reasons to return to this experience.

Arguably the best game ever made in an even more perfect package. “Tetris Effect: Connected” will keep you playing for decades to come like Tetris itself has done since its inception in the 80’s.

Isso não é um jogo, é simplesmente uma experiência extra sensorial
E cara, que obra prima, provavelmente é o melhor puzzle game já feito

Look man, I know it's just the tetris equivalent of jingling keys in front of a baby, but I like the jingling and it's all sparkly and look there's a whale.

one of he best games have ever created. i'm serious. EVERYY PASSINGG DAYY THE WINDSS MIGHTT GROW STRONGEEERRRR

Took an edible and played this while zooted. 10/10 recommend

Probably one of the best versions of Tetris to play with the sheer dazzling visuals and cool soundtrack. Never played this in VR but I imagine it is incredible there too. Tetris is just a great game to have in your core.

I've experienced ego death and a spiritual awakening by playing the Ritual Passion stage at 2:00 AM while sleep deprived

I missed a T-spin right as the lady sang "It's all connected", at that exact moment I realised this game is perfect.

It's tetris but now I feel zen at the same time. The soundtrack is beautiful and the visuals are so calming and cool.

an amazing journey that i felt only started minutes before the credits started. i wish it was at least twice as long.
