Sillent Hill (nowadays) is sometimes frustrating to play due to the tank controls, you gotta push the analog down to go foward!! It was quite confusing for a while but then I got used to it. It's manageable for exploring, for the combat it's quite messy and just frustrating sometimes.
The story is nice, the characters are interesting, although the voice acting can be quite bad at times which may break your immersion completely.
The atmosphere for a 25 year old game is insanely good. The enemies designs are cool and so is every location you go in.
The game can also be quite confusing sometimes, either the puzzles or realizing what you need to do, the later is incredibly worse in the last area of the game, super confusing.
Overall, the game can be scary quite a couple time, the visuals are nice, I really liked the pre-rendered cutscenes, the gameplay is (understandably) very clunky and the story is cool.

Not the most playable game being 3D on the PS1, but still an enjoyable game and great start to the franchise. The game really brings out the moody atmosphere with the ever present fog, probably one of the best examples of a game working around a limitation to turn it into a strength. I really enjoyed the gimmick of exploring an area only for it to turn into a shadowy otherworld.
It's Silent Hill's 25th anniversary next week so I had to replay it for what must be the hundredth time (defo an exaggeration).
SH1’s legacy - as one of the most influentially horrifying, terrifying and important games Videogameland has ever created - can never be overstated in my book.
Alongside Resident Evil, it’s the game that started my love of the horror game, as I’m sure it did for many others, and I will forever adore it for that.
The fact that whenever I replay it, even in 2024, it still holds up way more than most other influential games from the 90s and even 2000s, is super impressive.
And while the series’ future has been in free fall for some time now (and it keeps falling somehow, the less said about that the better), we’ll always have the good games like this one to look back on and replay, and lots of exciting indie games carrying on its lineage in its stead.
For now, happy 25th Silent Hill, you misty, rusty, old weirdo. I’m so glad we met… even if it was foretold by gyromancy.

A perfect example of a game that destroys the argument of not being able to get into a game because of dated graphics: Silent Hill takes advantage of every single technical disadvantage it has and provides a psychological horror experience that’s still extremely effective and completely unique—a timeless work of art that everyone needs to play. They really don’t make em like this no more
first backloggd game to record my thoughts for! the first silent hill game was my first foray into older playstation games with shitty controls, and honestly at this point i think it has grown on me as something i quite love. the atmosphere of this game creeps the shit out of me, and even though there is nothing truly terrifying visually in this game, i think the menacing story and the misty environment truly encapsulate real fear very well. the story is excellently crafted and the town is as mysterious as it seems, making the player want to seek more. overall just a genuinely eerie yet super intriguing experience to play through, and i love harry and how much he cares for his little girl.
