This game is currently in the Humble Choice for May 2024, and this is part of my coverage of the bundle. If you are interested in the game and it's before June 4th, 2024, consider picking up the game as part of the current monthly bundle.

A spooky puzzle game.

Amanda the Adventurer has a great spooky vibe. The game is played in an attic filled with tons of stuff, and every time I was done watching a video I quickly looked at a doll expecting that doll to move. The entire game has this dark daemonic feeling towards it, and after viewing a tape, different devices are placed on the center table for the player to use and solve puzzles to get additional tapes.

However, the puzzles here are a mixed bag. I think I had a solve rate of maybe 50 to 75 percent without assistance . There are at least a few Steam guides, but there’s very little help in the game and even a minor hint system or at least the main player talking to give the player a hint would have been appreciated. Also, I’ve heard from horror fans this is not that scary, and that’s probably why I’m ok with this.

Pick this up if you want a horror-puzzle hybrid. The entire game is based on a spoof of Dora the Explorer, but it doesn’t even try to pretend it’s normal. This gets pretty wild, though I would recommend trying to make the wrong choices because watching what happens when you make the wrong choice is the most entertaining part.

OH MY DAYS THIS IS TERRIFYING OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD I HAD NIGHTMARES AND I HAVEN'T EVN PLAYED IT OH MY GOD OH MY GOD

História Intrigante, Puzzles instigantes e satisfatórios, Conceito bem feito.

Confesso que eu acabei me surpreendendo com esse jogo, ele é muito melhor do que eu imaginava, no final os puzzle viraram o triunfo do jogo pra mim.

A simple yet fun game with puzzles and secrets. I must confess it has enough alternative tricks that I had to check in guides to know how to do them.

It's a hella short game but it was entertaining enough. I wish it had more content for its price, though.

Meu mano Gigi também tem mérito nessa platina

This was a wonderful horror experience with a captivating mystery and very thought out puzzles that made me scratch my head until I got them and hated myself for not getting them sooner! This game wears its creepypasta influence on its sleeve, its build up of uneasiness up to horror kept me glued to the screen and had my try every single interaction just to see what happened as a result. I think this game is a must play for slow burn horror fans that love good, thoughtful puzzles.

I'm not sure I would have made it through without Wooly by my side

It's really not a horror game, I was pleasantly surprised by the more puzzle theming of the game.

I actually kinda dug this. Pretty short (I wanna say around 3 hours on average?), not particularly scary at all, but it was pretty interesting for the cheap experience it was and it had some genuinely funny moments. The lore behind it was intriguing enough (moreso than most other little indie horror games that have cropped up lately), and it did have some genuinely eerie moments to its credit - the speech training with Amanda reading out things such as "baa lamb" and "pie man" and realising what they sound like was actually pretty chilling. Actually got impressively emotionally attached to Wooly and Amanda's dad by the end. I hope they do more with this someday.

Short creepy puzzle solving experience that is the right length at around 1-2 hours. Meant to be played a couple of times to see things through.

Playing off the rising analog horror trend, the game involves you watching increasingly cursed video tapes that need you to solve puzzles to find the next tape. Has a couple of jumpscares littered in in case you wanna know before buying.

very empowering, as an Amanda myself

It's a short game that was developed after a game jam project and it's pretty well done. The game is certainly functional and isn't really lacking in any department: it looks okay, plays okay, the sound and animation qualities are there.

It could help if it had a few more improvements such as being able to get out from the zoom mode by using the left mouse click, making it less tedious to turn the clocks or having the cooking pan always land in the right direction instead of flying around but those are minute details in a game that's about two hours long.

Amanda is your typical horror game that tries to take advantage of childish things, here it’s obviously Dora. It doesn’t really hold any surprise but it’s fun enough to play. I do wish it went further with its themes or it focused better on one of them instead of multiple ones, I think there are a few good ideas such as a child being stuck in a TV world which turns into some kind of hellish place: it’s an interesting concept that doesn’t try to make the player scared for their lives, instead it’s just as scary as hearing about what a killer could have done to a kid. You’ve got a kid right in front of you, suffering, and you can’t do anything about it. There are vague hints of this but ultimately the game stays at a surface level with everything. It seems more like a mix of ideas and jump scares than something cohesive, which is a shame.

It’s a very good parody of Dora on the other hand. The presentation is really top notch.

The puzzles can also get really cryptic. One thing I didn’t understand personally is that at some points in the story where you hit a game over, I wasn’t experiencing a bug where the game didn’t save but it was intentional.

A fun 2 hours for sure, exploring all the secrets and endings was cool. I wish it was a bit longer

very good game so far , i wish there was more of these,

ok not that good

pretty decent horror game! would recommend checking it out

This game knows what its trying to do, does it extremely well, and doesn't try to reinvent the wheel. And, yes, I am a person who advocates for constant experimentation with games as a medium, but honestly sometimes a game doesn't need to, and that's okay. Personally, it's lore/story wasn't very compelling to me. Amanda the Adventurer is, in my opinion, a great way to spend an afternoon if you're bored or something.

Ignoring my sheep bias, Amanda the Adventurer expands upon the demo/"Pilot Episode" with its compelling use of childhood nostalgia for pseudo-interactive kids media (Dora the Explorer, Blue's Clues) as actual interactive media, terrifying with notions of choice which disintegrate upon the whims of the eponymous antagonist. Wooly is right in his terror when unnamed, unspoiled horrors await him in the artificial light of the animated television show featuring his lovely, adorable, not at all scary friend, Amanda. The game has its clear production issues in terms of a rapid development (taking only about a year to create) which lessens the scope of its puzzles and environmental scares, but, in all, this is a wonderful time most suited for myself as it accomplishes what could never be conceived of when watching (and mocking, as older viewers will) children's TV shows of the late '90s and early '00s.

more of a puzzle game with horror theming then the other way around. Wish there was more lore in the game but a nice snaky little experience otherwise.

pretty good, kinda overrated but fun

a short simple game that i really enjoyed. hope to see more from this dev!

It wasn't scary and Amanda getting mad and aggressive at times felt like a Family Guy bit but I really loved the puzzles and the concept overall is fun. It's a good game :)

Wooly has the same energy as an ex-Nickelodeon child star that was traumatised by a toxic work environment while playing ICarly or Victoria Justice's funny sidekick on TV. The podcast my dude is gonna drop while smoking a blunt with a popular YouTuber 10 years from now is gonna be fire.

A Firm Okay
Liked the endings but some details of the tapes should have been expanded on. The lore tapes were also a bit cryptic and conclusions would have been made them more interesting.

I don't know. Maybe this genre isn't for me. But I feel like indie horror can be really good sometimes, if it's made right.

I just didn't think this was made right.

The scares are cheap. The concept is interesting- but the execution is done poorly. And when it comes to the story- what there was just didn't impress me. The characters just aren't interesting.

The fan songs on Youtube are great though. Definitely give those a listen.

At any rate, I hope the developer can improve for the future.
