"Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy" stands as a solid spin-off of the Final Fantasy series, seamlessly blending fighting game and RPG elements into a unique experience. It serves as a love letter to Final Fantasy fans, offering a nostalgic journey through the franchise's rich history.
The game is approachable for both action and RPG fans, thanks to its Action Mode and RPG Mode, which cater to both hardcore and casual players. This versatility provides players with the option to tailor their experience to their preferences.
Personally, I fell in love with this game and spent countless hours mastering its mechanics and maxing out every character. It's a must-have PSP classic, offering additional content and a new story compared to its predecessor. If you're a fan of Final Fantasy or enjoy a blend of action and RPG gameplay, "Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy" is well worth your time.

If you can only play one Final Fantasy spin-off game, make it this one.
Compared to old Dissidia , this one got a generous amount of new characters and arenas, reworks of nearly every character (most notably, Firion and Bartz), on top of the same good old gameplay. On its own, it's still an entertaining hybrid of fighting and RPG, with a full-fledged story mode and even a "rougelike" side mode.
Duodecim looks, sounds and plays great. It's a damn shame Square Enix never did anything else with this formula.

I still watch PvP matches of this game from time to time. How I wish SE port it to newer platforms, or better yet, give us a sequel. Only complaint I have is with the new assist system. They definitely didn't think it through when they created the Aerith assist. She and Exdeath sure make an abominable combo.

An amazing game that was an improvement on the already really good original. The gameplay is so incredibly fun, and the RPG elements add a unique twist to the fighting game genre. All of the characters play differently from each other and there's bound to be one that clicks with someone. An all-star soundtrack also helps a lot.
While not a masterpiece of fiction, Dissidia 012 is a great time for Final Fantasy fans. Containing all of the content from the original along with a new bonus chapter, the game offers interesting and in-character interactions from the series' myriad of protagonists, brightly displayed before the intriguing, albeit admittedly convoluted backdrop of its main storyline. In one of the most baffling story decisions I've ever seen in a video game, Dissidia 012 decides to lock the most important pieces of its lore behind a incredibly difficult, grind-filled postgame, of which I didn't bother to complete despite legitimately enjoying what else the game's narrative had offer. For your own sanity, look these cutscenes up on YouTube.
Narrative aside, the real reason to play Dissidia 012 is the timeless gameplay. The Brave/HP attack system is utterly unique amongst its fellow fighting games, and the push/pull dynamic it creates fosters endless opportunities for cinematic clashes and surprising comebacks. The customization options for each character is robust, and the amount of characters available - along with a myriad of fun unlockables such as costumes - is guaranteed to keep you entertained once you get used to the flow of combat. Gameplay wise, this is one of my favorite fighters of all time, and the level of content on display here is impressive at even today's standards.
Overall, this game is very good mechanically, with a story that ranges from dullingly simple to robust and complicated. However, if you're like me and can simply get enjoyment out of watching your favorite characters stand in a room and chat, you'll have a great time regardless.
