Such vibrant characters and delightful audio flourishes undercut by transphobic backpeddling and casual homophobia. I just want to hangout with my cool friends, just be cool, Persona.

What a tedious waste of a great foundation. Loses the rich connectivity of Asylum and replaces it with nothing buildings and random squads of goons. A handful of great sequences salvage an otherwise forgettable march towards content maximalism.

Visually and sonically exhausting. I like the angsty key blocks a lot and the dorky song interludes. Got a bit lost but felt accomplished seeing the end. Lots of personality.

Trying to unpack a lot more than can be addressed in 10 minutes (guilt, parental obligations, challenged faith). I find the presentation rather garish for the topic matter. A low point of the pack.

Exceptionally realized atmosphere, so much history is conveyed through texture and space with no words. Zipping this orange goo snake feels so good, like the most perfectly tuned Nokia phone that never was. Great name.

Branching campfire narrative design. I adore the character designs and the way choice is offloaded from character beats to "what would this person like to see?" Actually played four times (apparently there are 27 routes) to see multiple endings, great fun!

What if Alan Wake was a top down minigolf game? And it actually works? Explores a lot of light-based puzzles without feeling stretched thin. The ending is a bit goofy, but the atmosphere is top notch.

A two player visual novel is a cool idea. As a story it's a bit much especially right now, being almost entirely two people yelling at each other. I'd like to see this mechanic in a less confrontational setting.

Very unusual timeloop-souls-adjacent adventure with a lot of character and a surprise ending. I don't know if I find it charming or morbid but I'm into it. Maybe a bit too hard early on but encourages cheesing it.

A gorgeous and melancholy story of small town life and growing into yourself. Poetically explores body and gender politics in ways that are both surreal and ordinary. Fantastic glitchy photograph visual style.

Interesting downward platformer where the deeper you go the higher you can jump but horizontal movement is restricted. I like the warping effect as you descend as if everything is becoming unmoored. Would enjoy more story bits.

2020

Cute micro-game-of-micro-games that warps a bunch of arcade staples and finds clever ways to transition between them. Reminiscence of Metamorphabet but instead of letters it's breakout and mini-gold. A bit uneven but fun to watch unfold.

A gift. Like a Dreamcast game from a time that doesn't exist. Bold and warm and earnest.

A made-for-CBS movie of a game. Nothing justifies the slog, it merely exists and can be experienced. All memory immediately evaporates.

2003

Sanitizes Tricky's character for open-world girth. A grim omen of the decade to come.
