I want to love this more but the gameplay really gets in the way of my enjoyment. The story and characters are incredible though.

ok i can really appreciate and see why this game is being praised the way it is.
but damn. this game did not age well in terms of gameplay. i get that it is an oldschool playstation game and all that but the bosses were a huge pain in the ass. the communication with the player is almost kinda not there, giving me no option but to have a walkthrough open for kind of every little thing this game asks of me.
my favorite parts of this game, which really showed me why and how its possible for this game to still have that huge impact on the community were the cutscenes. the characters, the dialogue and the absolutely charming and amazing wallbreaks this game had to offer as one of the first of this kind. other than that this is pure hell to sit through at times and i really suggest just watching a video or something for the story here. maybe even a longplay of an experienced player because some codec conversations even bring a lot of character to the game.
the last fight against liquid also could have just been a cutscene. ive had enough of these terrible fights at this point, metal gear rex being incredibly bad towards the end and almost making me forget that every other boss before that was almost as bad.

this actually was kinda challenging not gonna lie
the visuals are absolutely beautiful and the game really worked with everything the psp had to offer
its japan exclusive and it shows by having underaged loli girls pose in the most sexual poses possible (its kinda funny tho, these poses are getting more sexual the more you use the bombs you have)
but other than that this was a nice little something

outstanding atmosphere and soundtrack for such a pretty basic shmup. took me some time to make the soundtrack work as im playing on emulator but without it this wouldnt hit as good. the setting is absolutely amazing.

makes me sad that people will now grow up with the phantasy reverie version of this game which is basically the absolute worst version to play this (seriously, even the "wii"make made this game look better than this soulless remake)
beautiful, dreamy worlds, gameplay that doesnt get boring even though you only have like one mechanic to use and a touchingly beautiful story.
still the best way to play the first game.

i replayed this again and would like to change my review a little bit from someone who experienced this game just now again in its full form (played all stories)
i am taking away 1 star because shadows campaign plays like straight ass and really stretched this game a little because i did not get so many gameovers in the other stories. HOW-fucking-EVER.
my view of this game still has not changed one bit. this would have been the best 3d sonic game up to date if it did get the time it deserved. instead we have all of these cool what ifs i found myself sticking to a lot while playing. WHAT IF this abillity worked the way it should. WHAT IF this stage was designed properly and speed boosts wouldnt be the death of me. WHAT IF they actually had the time to put into soleanna, the overworld, and make it the lively world they obviously wanted it to be. it is a bummer this was so rushed in the end because in its core, this is the best 3d sonic, no doubt. the zones are filled with absolute neat ideas, amazing soundtrack and beautifully designed extras.
crisis city and kingdom valley being some of my favorites to mention here.
storywise i believe this game is one of the strongest of this franchise. compared to the crap we have gotten since colors this shines through even after almost 20 years of abandonment by sega and also the community. mephiles being a badass, characters being characters and not just soulless cameos for underaged fans so they can point at the screen and scream names. its a shame this game gets this poor treatment without looking at the what ifs. this game was not even close to finished but none the less has left an impact on me where this whole sonic universe was not just a joke.
so yeah. i like this game.

absolute peak of rpg and a must play.

johnny x kenshi is the best thing i have ever witnessed

i love this game so much, nostalgia is big on this one tho

lets take away everything sonic gameplay related and call it a sonic game

valnus is kinda op in this game

I DID IT
I FINALLY GOT TO PLAY ROYAL
while i did play vanilla p5 on its og release, i didnt really check much on what exactly royal added to the game. turns out: a lot! the new palace added in this game is probably the most outstanding to me. the whole maruki story arc showed me that not only ryuji has character in this game (im sorry, i cant help but think this cast is the flattest one in the persona series, ever)
all in one this is nice even when you have played the game already. the game has nice little qol improvements, made okumuras palace a lot easier and not as annoying and gave mementos sevetal new things to do so it doesnt feel as empty anymore.
very nice playthrough!

dark cloud is an amazing rpg. really. was a journey to play through last year.
basically you help rebuilding destroyed towns by collecting several lost pieces scattered in dungeons.
and its really fun!
the dungeons have really nice music, the designs are incredibly cool (my faves being the owl forest and the sunken wreck) and as a whole this game really tried to bring this genre in a nice new direction. crafting weapons, looking out for your weapons breaking status and your own thirst is a mechanic that somehow even added little survival elements to it.

however, its sad this game doesnt really embark in its world. it feels a little soulless, the teammates and characters in general have no real human feeling to them. they are just kinda there. we get some backstory on goro and the elder dude from the desert but other than that the game just wants you to treat them like a abillities more than real team mates. its sad because this is a big minus in depth for this game. it seems shallow at times and at certain points, especially the boss battles, you can notice this was level 5 first game. some bosses dont work at all, some are just incredibly weak and others, like the final boss, are just unfair.
dungeons having two parts, the front and back, was also a nice idea. just not really great put into work, not to forget that in the final dungeon, in the pal version of the game, the item which lets you go to the back of the dungeon simply doesnt spawn at all.
its also sad they forgot about the quick time events as the game progressed, i always love these kind of things.

but other than that this was a great entry into the franchise and still a really cool, magical journey! cant wait to play the second part :)
