Gris is a visually unique title about a girl’s journey of overcoming her trauma and the emotions that accompany it. It’s rendered like a watercolor painting that starts off gray (Gris, if you will), but more colors are added as the game progresses. Gameplay typically involves platforming through environments that change depending on the color of the area. Red areas are mountainous deserts, green are forests, and blue are water levels, for example. Gris’s soundtrack is stellar, and establishes the emotion that encapsulates the adventure. Its opening cutscene grabs the player immediately with phenomenal visual and auditory presentation and sets the tone for the journey to come. Despite being a short game, Gris felt complete. It is a worthwhile experience if not for the music alone.
