I played this game specifically to spite people in a Discord server who were saying it's bad in one sitting to 100% because I will not take slander towards this absolute gem of a game. Mario 64 isn't perfect. Rainbow Ride is mid, the bosses aren't anything special, some of the stars are tedious as hell and exiting a stage every time you get a star gets monotonous after a while. But despite those issues everything from the controls, to (most of) the levels, to the music, to even the visual style for being one of the first N64 games is absolutely stellar. There's a reason why this game is the golden standart for 3D platformers, and why it's remained that for so long.

Yeah the endgame is definitely the weakest point of the game but I definitely wouldn't say it's bad to beat in one sitting, definitely a very fun game to replay

I think the discussion point is that it's bad to 100% in one sitting. It's fairly easy to beat in one sitting, because you can just do the fun stars and ignore the crappy ones.

Eh I 100%ed it a couple months back in one sitting and even despite the weaker endgame I didn't think it was bad lol
I don’t understand playing the game to spite other people who already think it’s bad like how does that change anything lol
It's funny that's how
Why is exiting a stage every time you get a star considered a bad thing Cton when every other Mario game does the same thing?
The slippery ground and sometimes unintuitive level directions are what bring this game down compared to its spiritual successors IMO, but it's still a good game.

Also, you gotta @someone if you want them to be notified of a reply lol
@RedBackLoggd In the case of, say, the Galaxy games, the levels vary enough from each other to warrant needing to leave and re-enter. That is not the case with 64, and things like Plus proove that the game can very much work if you just stay in the level after collecting a certain star.
Oh wow, I never knew that. Thank you.
