honestly it kinda seems impossible to write a review for a game like this, it even feels wrong to give it a rating because it feels like im rating someones life suffering, but i guess what i have to do is just congratulate and thank the dev for getting their story out there, this game is such a real and open look into what trauma and sex work and gender is like, and as a trans woman myself it affected me alot, its amazing and super positive to see people get their story out there wether its trough a cute retro game or not, it helps us realize more what that pain is like and helps the authors finally get their feelings out, i feel like im rambling a bit now so ill just say again, congrats to taylor for this emotional story, i really hope everything goes right for you in life.

probably every horror fan has heard of this game, atleast every rpg maker horror fan, its a total classic in the scene but after playing it now, theres so many issues with the game, the game does do alot of interesting and cool things, i thought some of the moments and scares, while a bit cheesy and funny looking nowadays, were really cool, i wanted to like this game but it feels like it tried its best to make that not happen

first of all the biggest problem is the oni himself, the elephant in the room immediatly is that honestly the design may be cool but he isnt really scary, atleast not by todays standards, and even worst he ends up making the game so frustrating and hard, escaping from him is hard because of the clunky rpg maker controls, if you die it can be incredibly annoying since the game doesnt have auto save, and the random oni encounters are the worst part of this game hands down for being repetitive, annoying, and easy to die by since youre caught off guard, if there was atleast a warning whenever the oni was about to attack it would be tolerable but there isnt even that so he just becames an annoyance in the end and not scary.

the second part is the puzzles, ill admit some of the puzzles i thought were pretty cool and interesting, but the rest are super cryptic and impossible to understand, i tried my best but it was basically impossible for me to get far in the game without looking up a walktrough, so many of the puzzles just end up being "interact with this random object to find a secret door or key", its dumb.

again, i really wanted to like this game and at times i did, but the issues above just simply ruined it for me and made the game become a chore to get trough, honestly if you wanna experience this game nowadays, just look up a youtuber playtrhough of it, trust me youll have a much better time.

this game was honestly a big dissapointment, it had everything going for it in terms of visuals and charm, this game perfectly captures the feeling of old n64 platformers and its great, but its really really REALLY lacking in terms of gameplay, honestly this game feels more like an experiment or test project posted on gamejolt or itchi.io for free, except the creator decided to make it paid for some reason, the levels are super mindless and easy, mostly consisting of walking from point a to point b or piss poor easy puzzles with obvious solutions, the movement and controls have no depth and feel really unsatisfying since you move slow, and it is incredibly short youre likely to beat this game in just about an hour, i really wanted to enjoy this game and at times i did, but most of the time i was just bored which really makes me sad, i know this game is cheap but honestly at its current state it shouldnt even cost money

i feel totally confident in saying this is my favorite collection in the Dread X series, simply put there was no game i didnt enjoy! while there are games that shine more than others all of them still have their qualities and charm.

Hub - i feel a bit mixed about this games hub, while i do really enjoy the theme of a chuck-e-cheese style building and thought the puzzles and moments were fun, i think it was a bit too linear for my liking, they didnt let you choose what areas to explore or what puzzles to complete, instead they just unlock when the game wants them to, still tho i liked this hub a lot and the comic is a welcome feature that adds a bit more reward to beating the games.

The Book of blood - by far my favorite game of the collection, everything about this game was fun, intriguing and awesome, creepy ambiance, great puzzles altough a bit confusing, and amazing setting, this is definetly a project i would love to see become a full game

Gallerie - probably my second pick for favorite game, the setting for this game is creepy, bizarre and awesome, and it had so many mechanics that i thought were really interesting, all topped off with an amazing story, was also very surprise by how long an complete this game was, it truly felt like a complete experience which is amazing

We Never Left - super cool idea, i really enjoyed the text adventure gameplay and the story this game built, this one also had some really good scares and atmosphere, total congrats to the dev

Karao - this game can be a bit hard and a bit frustrating with its checkpoints, but still i thought the ambiance was great, the gun gameplay is fun and the story was awesome

Beyond The Curtain - short and sweet, while it didnt have much going on in it, this game still had a great setting and positively uncomfortable mood

Ludomalica - really great idea done well, definetly the game that brought the most scares and in really great ways

Rotten Stigma - while not the best game in the collection, it was still very enjoyable and brought alot of good to the table, the ambiance was unnerving and great, the scares were nothing special but still this game had a great setting and style

Spirit Guardian - i loved the audio related mechanics for this game, and it brought some really tense and scary moments, the visual style was also really nice and while a few of the parts could be annoying it was still mostly a great experience from beggining to end

Visage - really great idea with a great execution, this one was definetly a contender for scariest game and the story and the way it was told was amazing

Resver - im gonna be honest, this game was confusing, weird, and i didnt really understand what it was, but i still kinda loved it lol, the visual style was super unique and great and overall it was just a fun weird ride

Hunsvotti - really weird game but i loved it, the setting is not super scary but still pretty unique and unnerving in its own way and the ending was the best, overall good time

Interim - in my opinion the weakest game in the collection, while still not bad it definetly needed a bit of polish, the physics puzzles werent great and i didnt really understand what was going on, but still a pretty alright experience

so as you can see while not masterpieces all the way, there really isnt a game in the Dread X Collection 5 that i can call bad, all of the games have their own charm and i feel alot of them could be amazing if they were fully fledged experiences, i can confidently say this is my favorite game in the Dread X series.

Another fantastic collection of horror games by Dread XP with some truly incredible ones, while the collection is not totally consistent with its quality each game still has its charm an uniqueness, heres my thoughts on each one:

Hub - the hub for this game was alright, while i think nothing has reached the fun of the Dread X Collection 2 hub yet this one still tells an interesting story and is fun to walk around in, altough i found it strange how theres basically no information on the games when you pick them, there shouldve been atleast a little description

The Fruit - absolutely the best game in this collection, the atmosphere and story in this one is great and the mechanics of the runes and manually loading your gun were super cool, might replay this one at some point cause its that good.

Axis Mundi - great game! the story was great and enthralling and i thought the camera was a fun spin in the shooter theme of the collection.

Rose of Meat - while i liked the weird themes and presentation of this game, i didnt think it had much going for it in terms of gameplay and i thought the explosion based combat was a bit clunky, but still an enjoyable experience.

Black Relic - fun game with a very unique aesthetic and cool story, altough i did have some gripes with the gameplay, mainly that the players actions are too slow, the enemies aim can suck and there were too many ammo crates around the map for me to even worry about running out at all, but still these problems didnt hinder my enjoyement too much and i had a good time.

Uktena 64 - Definatly my favorite aesthetic of the collection, it really nails the nintendo 64 look and feel, and i thought the story really had some eerie and weird moments, the gameplay is pretty simple but still very enjoyable.

Seraphixial - Definatly the worst game in the collection and a real dissapointment from the Timore developer, the story is confusing to follow since nothing is explained and things just happen, theres only 2 enemies the game keeps copy and pasting over and over again, the scares boil down to cheap and not scary jumpscares and the bosses are dumb, a really bad stain on this overall flawless collection

The House of Unrest - one of my favorites i think! the graphics are nice and have a cool ps1 aesthetic, the gameplay while not very challenging was fun and the puzzles were fun as well, not a bad game at all.

overall except for a few bad apples, the Dread X collection the Hunt is a pretty flawless and great one, i definatly recommend it.

While it can be very glitchy and hard to play sometimes, this is my perfect type of game, a ridiculous road trip simulator full of adventure and the perfect game to relax and drive
