Good thing my first big bulk pull gave me nothing good and I rage quit.

Not a lot of content and a lot of grinding. A loooot of in game ads to push spending.

A step down from Yakuza 6 / Judgement 1. Less blood pumping action; the rpg gameplay adds too much padding and make the story feel a lot less tight. I also found Kasuga not nearly as likable as Kiryu or Yagami.

I didn’t find out about the “Stop time while crusading” toggle until after post-game. That toggle made the game so much more enjoyable for me. No more racing against time and constantly killing followers due to old age.

Game is a bit of a buggy mess though.

The collection part of the game and the lack of a proper conclusion kept this from greatness.

I wanted to give this a 3 but the beautiful ending elevated it somewhat. This game could've been a 4 without all the ubisoft style open world bs.

The boss battles and set pieces are great, but the story is very terribly written for a game with 70+ hrs of cutscenes.

Story was below average, and while the crafting system is deep, it's a minmaxer's nightmare with all the mats and trait juggling.

I beat this game over a week ago and I still can’t get it out of my mind. One of the (if not THE) most beautiful and depressing game I’ve ever played.

Makes me a bit sad for the people who are just analyzing/criticizing character actions completely rationally like a robot that they are missing out on the strong emotional response that they could’ve experienced.

Story is a 5/5 but the gameplay is just too stressful. I’m a hoarder so I just crawl around all the time to do silent takedowns and that really gets stale over 30 hrs (I can’t help it!).

Spoilers begin
Main character (hetero man) was shocked to find someone he likes is actually a guy and lashed out, but realized his error almost immediately and spent the rest of the game reconciling and eventually ending up together. Five minutes after the heavily featured shock face scene on twitter/resetera, the main character said things such as: (I'm paraphrasing) "Rin accepted me the way I am and made me comfortable in my own skin. When you think about it, things like gender doesn't seem so important ya know?"

If this is transphobic then the word has basically lost all meaning. smh (Plus Rin identifies as male so he’s not even trans)

Onto the actual review:
I thought the game's story was pretty intriguing throughout until the last act when it got wrapped up pretty roughly and did not resolve in a satisfying way. Other than that, I also didn't personally like the puzzle gameplay. Good thing there isn't much grind just to see all the ending and you could skip all puzzles if you wanted. 3.5 stars for keeping my attention for quite a while and respecting my time.

Much much better compared to the garbage story that was cs3/4. Unfortunately it got very predictable closer to the last act in typical kiseki fashion, but overall still an enjoyable ride.

[I want to add that the side episodes are all very well written; better than some of the main plots even.]
