Damn near perfect game!

Who would have thought we would get a game as colorful, stylish, and full of personality from the same studio that brought us the bloody and dirty The Evil Within series. Let alone a studio headed by one of the founding fathers of the survival horror genre, Shinji Mikami. But here we are!

For the longest time, I've always wondered if it was possible for a game studio to make a free moving rhythm action. I can confidently say that the team at Tango Gameworks have figured out the formula and nailed it! You really have to play it to really see how great it feels to play this game.

The only thing holding the game back from being 5 stars is some quiet sections between battle where you run around, platform, and loot aren't all too engaging. The platforming feels a little stiff too. Also, although abundant, you are limited to the combos that that the game has and you can't exactly mix combos together. This may be a me thing, but I found it hard to remember a lot of the combos as well.

Other than that, the game is amazing to play, makes you feel good while playing it, and not a single character is wasted throughout the simple, yet heartfelt and engaging story.

I think I enjoyed this game a lot more than most people and I began to really like the flow of combat towards the end. The game looks amazing and I personally think the acting and story, although simple, was good, kept my attention, and left me wondering what was going to happen next. The game ends a bit abruptly and is a bit on the short side which makes the $70 price tag at launch a very steep entry point if you aren't willing to spend that money on a game right now. All in all, The Callisto Protocol is a very well made game that the team at Striking Distance put a lot of love, and money, into and it shows. They made the game that they envisioned. It's just up to you if you enjoy that vision or not.
