This is exactly what you would expect from a Castlevania on the Sega Genesis; it's edgy, hard, weird, stylish, unique, all in the best way possible.
Following my journey through the classicvanias, Bloodlines is surely a welcome entry, I played the first half with John Morris, and the second half with Eric Lecarde, and the second one is definetely my favorite, being able to simply attack upwards is a comfort I haven't had since Super Castlevania IV.
Overall the game is super fun, levels are great to go through and always keeping you entertained with a new gimmick, never making it unfair; bosses are mostly fun (some don't even look like Castlevania monsters lol), and I can't quite remember if there any other linear games on the franchise with sub-bosses, which is weird, beacuse they're really cool

This one just pips Super Castlevania IV for me!
I prefer the style, the sound and the animations. The whip feels the most satisfying it’s felt yet, with enemies severing in half or exploding into 100 pieces. I may go back and try the Lecarde character’a spear.
The difficulty is much more suited to my “expertise”, with nothing ever feeling impossible. The latter bosses are enjoyable compared with previous games frustrating late game bosses.
Speaking of the bosses, I loved every single one. Each one was well done and interesting.
My one gripe would be the France level. That was a little annoying but a very minor point. Oh, and f**k the spiral staircase!
Overall, this was my favourite Castlevania experience so far!

I would have loved this as a Sega kid, sadly didn't actually play it until I was an adult. It's not quite as top-to-bottom fantastic as Super Castlevania IV, but I appreciate that we had another awesome, linear, side-scrolling 16-bit Castlevania before Symphony of the Night (which is also great) prompted the series to go Metroid.
