Armored Core is awesome because kiddie wink fuckwit Dark Souls fans and people who have sandblasted their taste away can publicly expose themselves for not understanding a single thing about AC. AC is not about epic Mech battles or lore or any bullshit. It's about you spending hours in the garage making the worst looking abomination of a unit ever so that you can throw it at a mission and see if you're stupid idea works and if it does you have the additional challenge of seeing if you can dunk on your friends with it in multiplayer.

No, epic mech battles is definitely a huge part of the games' appeal. One look at Wildcat's intro in the original game and you can tell. Theres a whole arena mode in nearly every game that is just "epic mech battles". Even the most iconic ACs in the franchise, Nine Ball and White Glint, are known for their fights (as well as their kick ass designs). Later games leaned harder into it too, which Last Raven predominantly being enemy AC fights and ambushes and For Answer including Arms Forts. The garage is a huge part of course, but there's way more aspects to why people love the franchise.
Not really a fan of this trend of people that have never played an AC game before leveraging their cursory knowledge of the series to try and own the Souls fans.
