This game may not have complicated storylines or impressive visuals for it's time unlike it's sequels, but the game does a very good job on handling all those character portraits and especially the villains. It is really easy to see the developers' enthusiasm about this game. PS1 is a platform that has very clear borders and MGS is a game that never suffers from it. It seems that the developer team knew about the capabilities of the platform and designed this game accordingly. Breaking the fourth wall is a meme at this point and it's use in most games feels like pointless or just for a few laughs. MGS uses it to create variety in it's gameplay. It is disappointing seeing a developer team capable of creating this game, do not share the same enthusiasm when they are beyond these borders.

As a game this is a great sequel to it's predecessor, but lacking in boss fights, villain portraits and variety MGS had, on the other hand MGS: 2 has one of the most controversial and inspiring subtexts in the gaming medium. At the time Kojima may simply be confused or scared about reforms that were yet to come in human society, but as a final product I see this as an highly polished oath to the post-truth era.
