Feels like those cheap-ish, mediocre Nintendo DS games you used to play as a kid, except it's a mobile game, so progress is not linear. You must come back to the game every other day if you want to finish the main story. It also encourages you to log in daily so that you'll receive more accessories and materials needed to open new cabins. It's definitely going to be too grind-y for anyone who's neither a child nor already a Sanrio fan. If the characters are probably dear to you, then the odds of you enjoying a play-through are much higher.
New Horizons feels emptier and incomplete when you place it against other Animal Crossing mainline games. Yes, it's a cozy experience, and, yes, it did help pass time during the pandemic... But it's just lacking what previous games in the franchise had. It was released with several features missing, which were added throughout the following year. I can't believe we've really let games get away with these lazy patch-ups.
It's still alright, but it could have been a 10/10.
