DMC Games Best to Worst

After finishing the DMC series (main games at least), I decided to rank them.

Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening - Special Edition
Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening - Special Edition
Definition of peak, insanely fun combat, solid level design and puzzles for the most part, the music is extremely banging, and the story is probably the best in the series. While it does decline in quality towards the end of the game, it doesn't get very bad until Mission 18 and 19, even then, it makes up for it in Vergil 3, which is probably my favorite DMC boss fight period. This game's very close to a 5 stars for me, but the end game stuff sadly makes it fall a little short, still love this game and come back to it though. If I were to rate it on a scale out of 10, it'd probably be like a 9.5/10, had a load of fun playing this game.

My review already did enough explaining on this one, but DMC5 is still an incredible game. Fantastic combat, fun enemies, fun bosses, etc. This game definitely feels like the most consistent DMC game out of all of them (aside from 2 which is consistently shit, but I digress). Nero and Dante are incredible to play as and are improved from their DMC4 counterparts, which were already great to begin with, Dante's weapons are also pretty fun to use. However, there's some problems I have with 5 as a whole, albeit pretty small ones, V's very underwhelming and mediocre to play as, but thankfully you don't have to play as him for many missions, I also think level design could've been done better as a majority of it just feels like walking from one place to another while destroying the roots of the trees, would've preferred if there was some puzzles or the like such as in DMC3. Overall, these complaints don't really affect my experience too much because at the end of the day, DMC5 is still a great game, play it if you haven't already.

I wish I could like this game even more. The amount of potential here is insanely high and it could've genuinely been the best game in the series, unfortunately while the combat is incredible, a majority of the enemies aren't fun to fight at all, plus a few of the missions suck absolute balls. Overall though I can still enjoy 4. Combat's fantastic obviously, but I can tolerate and enjoy most of the missions in this game, but others like Mission 14 can kiss my ass with those goddamn plant enemies that spawn in the middle of the ground for no reason. Bosses are a bit hit or miss, there's some good ones like Credo and I've started to warm up on some others like Berial and Echidna, Bael and Sanctus I think are also okay, but every Agnus fight sucks and the Savior is one of the worst boss fights in the series period, alongside with some of the shitfest bosses in DMC2. DMC4 is a pretty good game overall, but there's so much holding it back, you kinda need a high tolerance to get through some of it.

DMC1's an interesting case. It's easy to look back at it and rule it off as dated, clunky, slow, etc. And at first I did genuinely feel that way about it, when I first played DMC1 on the first few missions, I could not stand the game one bit and was considering quitting right then and there, but I'm glad I didn't. DMC1 over time as you adjust to the mechanics and ease into the game is surprisingly enjoyable, the combat while simple in comparison to the future titles, is still fun and tight in its own way with Alastor and especially Ifrit feeling strong and good to use, not to mention certain scenarios make it better to use one weapon over the other. Atmosphere is also top notch, as you could probably guess considering this was originally going to be Resident Evil 4. Albeit, this game is still flawed, but that's to be expected as its the first of its kind. The fixed camera angles can get in the way a lot and sometimes be down right atrocious, this especially doesn't help in combat and will make things harder than they should be. Bosses are also pretty hit or miss, the Nelo Angelo and Phantom fights I enjoy, but stuff like the Nightmare or Griffon aren't really fun to fight and it doesn't help you have to fight all the bosses 3 times. Overall, while a flawed first entry, DMC1 is still a fun game in its own right.

I will not stand for such disrespect of the phone version of DMC4. It is as much a main game as any other game on this list.
