Unbelievably disappointing story. Really let down by this game.

Okay, I have a lot to say about this one. I was one of the people singing the praises for this game after playing a bit of the demo and couldn’t wait to eventually play the full game when I bought it. The game was legitimately gorgeous, the gameplay was great and really fun, the music was amazing and the character I started off with was hitting all the right notes for me.

Then I bought the game..and everything I said above still applied for my 30-40h of playing the game, but this was only because I avoided doing the story and did literally everything else the game offered before it just because of how much fun the exploration and gameplay felt. I literally had all of the secret jobs before a single characters second chapter.

Anyways, here’s where the bulk of my complaints for this game come from which sadly ruin a lot of the enjoyment I could’ve had from this game. The characters are all extremely uninteresting and boring, they all have one trope that they follow and they don’t deviate from that at all, they’re literally like robots (except for Tressa, Tressa is great). It’s legitimately impressive what they’ve managed to do with these characters, they’re so unbelievably boring and lame, I have legit, never ever played a game with a cast this uninteresting, and there are 7 of these mfers (excluding Tressa)

The story is not much better either, it’s legitimately trash, the first two chapters are painfully boring build up to each characters third and fourth chapter, where everything is supposed to pop off but it doesn’t, it is still so unbelievably boring, Therion’s story literally put me to sleep and I mean that with no exaggeration. Back to the characters again, they all have literally no chemistry, they never talk to each other outside of character banter which is, cool I guess but it’s just not enough for how long this game is, which is another complaint of mine, if the story was going to be this unapologetically boring, at least make it short but nope, each chapter is up to an hour long and you have to do this shit 32 times.

This game just sadly feels like more of a tedious chore to play if anything, and I feel like each characters, special character trait just amplifies that, I don’t want to go and speak to each individual npc just to go and purchase some meaningless garbage, why couldn’t that just be something one or two vendors have. I hated playing as Therion but his steal ability was just way too good to miss out on and almost feels like a necessity at times especially with how many stupid purple chests are in this game that only Therion can open.

There was a lot more I didn’t like about this game but I would be here forever if I was typing it all up so, I’m just going to say, I hope the second one is better. I hear it removes a lot of the jank the first one has in it so I’m looking forward to hopefully enjoying that one.

I have no idea how you run it back one more time after the perfect ending of the main game, which is a huge risk on its own, but then you make an ending even better than the main game without disrespecting any of the old games and this one. This dlc serves as a huge love letter to all GOW without it ever feeling cheap or unearned. For a free dlc, it does so much for the story and for Kratos as a character, it’s so damn good.
