JoshuaMaxwell reviewed Call of Duty: Ghosts

This review contains spoilers

This game should not have been this boring to push through.

The Story is that your dad used to be a stealthy soldier "known as a ghost" and helped America in missions against The Federation, "latin america countries". But now you and your brother have to help him, while also trying to stop a man powerful enough to kill ghosts. The idea for this story is actually very interesting, but is done in the most boring ways possible, they don't establish The Federation as anything other than the bad guys, the main focus moves to Rorke, but after capturing him, he escapes and you spend too many levels going after the Federation, and ignoring Rorke until he randomly finds your base, kills your dad, and goes off again. Also when you go after him again at the end of the game, where he somehow survives a bullet to the heart, and drags you away to be brainwashed just like him, while leaving your brother alive on the beach. Even some story moments that help this plot don't always make sense. Like how this is the longest game, yet there is only one campaign, yet it's not engaging enough to make you want to focus all your time on it. Also why did the Ghosts think they know where Rorke was, after it was a trick the first time? and why was Rorke there? and why did he plan to be captured only to escape, when nothing changes from him doing that? why did Rorke see Logan as special when he is a silent protagonist? giving us no reason to understand why. Even at the end of the game, your brother drops his gun, instead of pointing it at Rorke so he doesn't shoot you, when you are both on a suicide mission, meaning yuo are going to kill your brother anyway.

The Characters are nothing special, the biggest problem is that Logan is a silent protagonist in a story that fails to make us feel for his family and allies without it, and when former Call of Duty games stopped doing that anyway. Merrick was good, and his tactics and personality play off you and your brother alright, your brother is exactly what you expect from his architype, the dad too, keegan was so bland, I didn't even notice when he suddenly left the game, Riley is lovely dog to have on missions, but is barely in it. Rorke is the best character in the game easily, his personality is very interesting to watch, and if only they didn't ignore him for half the game, and is a big threat, especially if he can survive the final mission like that.

The Graphics are beautiful, they might be the best thing about every Call of Duty game going forward. Here, they really make every big moment feel even more cinematic.

The Gameplay is the same as before, but with new abilities, like controlling an attack dog, and swimming while avoiding sharks, these are good new mechanics, but are not used enough, the enemy AI sucks, when trying to kill you and Riley, the levels are mostly bland, due to feeling the same, and the boring campaign made this the hardest to enjoy, some levels are still enjoyable though, perticuarly the ones where you do stuff that hasn't been played in any former COD game, or sneaking inside the skyscrapper.

The Soundtrack is very bland, I don't remember any of tracks, and when listening to the music, I don't remember them engaging me.

Multiplayer also suffer from the campaign, some of the new added games are fun, especially getting to play against AI, with a team or by yourself, customzing your own soldier, and the games grind, and crankt, but sliding/leaning didn't make my matches feel any different, and the maps are limited to the boring ones of the campaign, and the few new perks to use don't make up for that at all.

Call of Duty: Ghosts should have died after death, and not come back as a ghost.
