They trimmed the superfluous and amplified what worked already well.

The original story of P3 but with all the quality of life improvements of the more recent titles: more of the iconic style that P5 brought to the table with less of the repetitive exploration, frustrating combat randomness and friction in the gameplay overall. Maybe a bit too easy on Normal if you're already familiar with how the Persona (or MegaTen in general) games work though. Unless you want to experience the original music (which is so weird to go back to after completing the game), I don't think there's really a reason to go back to any of the previous versions. (edit: Especially now that the Aigis DLC was announced.)

Just like years ago, I did find the writing flawed at times, especially how characters tended to act unrealistically but I guess it could be brushed off as just them being teenagers or what the grieving process might do to someone (and also me possibly missing cultural context as a non-Japanese player). Still had a great time though, felt great experiencing the game all over again and I'm glad it sold so well so fast. Well done, Atlus, I just hate how tough it will be to enjoy any older title's gameplay afterwards.

I haven't played any Suda51 game prior to this one. The gameplay is where the game shines for me: it isn't deep, camera can be frustrating during fights and people here seem to find it repetitive but it's so snappy and satisfying to hit and dodge things it that pushed me to actually complete the game after shelving it for a year and a half.

I found this game's visual style very nice, although I think I would've enjoyed it more if they didn't make the shadows a gradient filter that makes you constantly feel like you're looking at your monitor from an angle.

The confusing story and surface-level characters were the reasons why it was so hard for me to stay interested in the first place.
