Mario odyssey is one of my favorite mario games, and yet it's one of the most flawed. My main issue with the game is how many moons there are, it can be alot and sometimes even overwhelming, especially the moon rock moons. Also, with so many moons, a good amount of them are either not very well hidden, or just garbage.

Well, that seems like a big issue right? If some of the main collectibles in a MARIO game aren't that well hidden or not very fun, why do I love this game? I mean, isn't mario about collecting those items? Let me explain.

Mario Odyssey, is different than any other game in the franchise, because it's the only one where the destination (the moons) isn't important, but the journey (you getting to the moon) is. take a look at Mario 64, get to the top of the mountain and defeat King bomb-omb, the destination is king bomb-omb and its fun to defeat him, Sunshine, climb up the ferris wheel and make it go slower, the destination is the ferris wheel and that's fun to climb up. But what about the Galaxy games and 3D world/land? Those are about going through a certain world and getting to the end, and the end isn't the best part, the journey to the end is, and your right, but odyssey is different from those in a different way, it's has sandbox type levels, allowing for the journey to not be on one path, but any way you want to, unless the game prevents you from doing so.

It's the way you get moons, and how you get to them, That's what makes it fun, and it wouldn't be as fun, if marios moveset wasn't great, and it's better than great, it's fun to jump around everywhere, and that's without even getting a moon, so with its fun moveset and the way you move around in odyssey, that's why I don't mind the massive moon count, and some of the moons being lackluster, it's just fun. It's fun to run around and collect moons, and isn't that what it's all about with a mario game?
