Franchises I Have Tried and Failed to Get Into

Title says it all. The games listed are the ones in the series that I've tried. I may try to get into these games again in the future, but I highly doubt anything I do will get them to click.

Elder Scrolls

The main thing that keeps me from enjoying Bethesda games is their movement. It genuinely feels like you're walking everywhere. I don't know if I just didn't spec my character properly or if its intentional, but I despise how it feels to move in these games.
Fallout

Same reason as the Elder Scrolls games. It sucks because Fallout's world is one I'm genuinely very interested in, but sadly I don't think I'm ever going to really enjoy these games. I don't think I'd enjoy the isometric games either. They seem very cryptic and punishing, so I just don't think I'd be able to have a good time with them.
Kirby
(Also tried Kirby 64)

I have absolutely nothing against Kirby at all, but both of the Kirby games I've played were so easy that I found them to be boring. I understand that this is a series whose primary audience is children, but I've played other kid-friendly platformers that weren't nearly as effortless as the Kirby games are, or if they were easy, they at least had a lot of enjoyable spectacle to them or satisfying gameplay mechanics. The Kirby games I've played don't really have any of those. I may try to get into these games again some day because I really want to see the appeal, but as of right now, unless you grew up with these games, I just don't get it.
Pokemon
(Also tried Pokemon FireRed)

Despite growing up during the time when Pokemon was taking over the world, I never got into it. There wasn't any particular reason why, I just never did. I didn't try getting into them until like, 20 years later. I think that a big appeal of Pokemon is the social aspect of it. I don't find it to be especially challenging, collecting Pokemon is okay but not a huge draw for me, and I find its story to be paper thin. I've heard that the DS games are the pinnacle of the series, and maybe I'll finally see the appeal once I give them a try, but for now, I just find these games to be really meh.
Dragon Quest
(Also tried Dragon Quest IV and Dragon Quest V)

I think that Dragon Quest and Pokemon have both lead to me realizing that I need more than just your standard turn based combat system and general gameplay loop to enjoy an RPG. None of the Dragon Quest titles I've played held my attention. They're as basic as basic gets. Neither their stories or combat are really anything to write home about. They don't have especially interesting worlds or characters, and they tend to require you to grind a lot in order to progress. Maybe XI will be different because I've heard nothing but heaps of praise for that game. I respect how innovative the series is, but it just does not hold my attention at all. Dragon Quest IV had a really interesting premise, but I found out the DS version had cut dialogue, and I just never bothered to figure out how to emulate the mobile version.
Metroid Prime
(Also tried Metroid Prime 2)

This is probably my biggest regret, as someone who's an enormous fan of the 2D Metroids. It really sucks because I think there's so much about the games that are cool and that they get right, but backtracking in these games are a chore because they lack interesting movement abilities, and their in-game maps are a downgrade from the 2D Metroids since they don't mark whether there's an item or something that you missed in a room. Instead, they just tell you where to go if you take too long to figure it out. These, among other reasons unique to both Primes are why I don't enjoy them. I've yet to try Prime 3 and currently have zero hype for Prime 4.

I feel you on Dragon Quest. I SEVERELY doubt XI will change your mind. I thought it had the worst story of them all and everything else is about the same, just with crazy high production values.

@Yata777 Well, that's a shame to hear. I might still give it a shot some day just for the sake of giving it a chance, but yeah, I doubt it'll win me over sadly...
