One of the resident evil games of all time

A mostly solid first entry in the uncharted franchise. The last 5 or so chapters are fantastic but most of the game is just a fairly standard cover shooter in a beautifully designed world. Only thing I really hated about this game were the jet ski sections, honestly some of the worst controls of a vehicle in any game I've ever played. On the upside, gun play was relatively fun despite its repetitiveness and characters were decent although a bit cringy at times.

This is my first far cry game and I'm already sick of the series

This game is quite simply a copy & paste from the resident evil 2 remake but everything that they do change is significantly worse.

While I generally did have fun with this game as it maintains aspects from resident evil 2 ,which was an amazing game, such as the super realistic zombies and the challenging storage system, this game is so littered with issues that it's only vaguely worth playing in all honesty.

For starters, the game is way too short as it took me just 6 hours to complete for a first playthrough. While it isn't necessarily a bad thing for a game to be short, it's so obvious where there could have been more content so I don't understand how capcom didn't think the same thing. While I personally don't care for nemesis as a stalker enemy and is my least favourite stalker enemy from the resident evil games I've played, for someone who is supposed to be the main enemy you fave throughout resident evil 3, it's baffling to why you come across him so little. It's even more confusing how 90% of the time the encounters with nemesis are all bossfights and there is only one scene where he is chasing you around racoon city. I also found the game to be a bit short of gameplay with Carlos as his character is really entertaining but you only play as him a couple times throughout the game.

While this game is mostly action oriented, I like that this game doesn't completely abandon the horror aspects that were so brilliant in the previous game. There were some really tense, scary scenes throughout the game such as the spider infested generator room and the abandoned hospital which my personal favourite area to explore in the whole game.

There are a few gameplay issues which caused the game to be unnecessarily frustrating at times. I found myself getting stuck in stupid animations during bossfights which would often result in my death a lot of the time which got really annoying quickly. I also don't understand capcom's decision to remove the option to stab zombies with a secondary weapon like a grenade or flashbang when being grappled and opting to spam a button for the option to take less damage. It feels really unfair especially since the way that zombies lock onto your character's back when going past them. It's a feature that was an issue in resident evil 2 but they just seem to make it worse in this game especially since the dodging mechanics are pretty clunky and inconsistent.

The story is decent enough, it's hardly a game I was expecting to have a brilliant story but it's engaging enough despite it simplicity.

Basically, resident evil 2 clear

This review contains spoilers

While outlast 2 has all the basic elements to make a great horror game, it falls short on too many areas to make a game that's worth coming back to for more than just a few good scares.

Outlast 2 is very flawed, but to start of some of the things that are great about this game. I love the setting of this game, the desert full of crazy Christian hillbillies is so creepy and the general atmosphere is bone chilling. The basic concept for outlast of having nothing but a camera and nothing to defend yourself with for me sets it apart to make much scarier than your average horror game. Some of the transitions in this game are absolutely phenomenal and I'd absolutely reccomend going on YouTube and checking them out if you haven't seen them already, my personal favourite occurs fairly early on in the game and its when you see Jessica hanging from a tree and as you pass a branch that blocks your line of vision of seeing her and then she disappears.

While there are many things I can praise about this game, there are just as many , if not more, that they get wrong. The chase sequences are done really poorly for starters. They're tense as they should be at first but the level design for some of these chases are really bad which makes it become trial and error figuring out what way you're supposed to go as you're chased by blade weilding hillbillies and heretics. The story is very dramatic which isn't a bad thing in itself but Red Barrel overstep the line a few times where a few of the events are just a bit dumb as well as deaths of certain characters such as Papa Knoth and Martha being so anticlimactic and unfulfilling. While I thought the directional sound feature added to the camera was a good idea overall, I generally didn't find much of a justification to use it all that much other than when I'm trying to hear what an enemy is saying when talking to themself, although that's not madotory. I wish there was more of an emphasis on the use of the feature. Blake as a protagonist is honestly pretty bland and uninteresting, he's more of a bystander of horrid events rather than being someone who goes through the traumatic events. There is just a lot more characters in Outlast 2 who are much more interesting such as Papa Knoth, Jessica (more specifically the discovery of her death) and even the priest for as short of a segment he appears in the game is more interesting than Blake ever is.

For the bare bones of a horror game which is just managing to scare me, Outlast 2 does a great job, but from a gameplay and story standpoint this game could have been a lot better so overall this is just an okay game.

My rating for this game would likely be much lower had I played the original mafia II because after seeing gameplay of the original, this is a really poor remaster as the graphics aren't all that much better apart from a few good looking cutscenes here and there and this game can get pretty buggy.

Despite that though, as someone who hadn't already experienced this game before, I really enjoyed this game for the most part. The characters are really engaging and the story is fantastic. Not massively overblown and dramatic, alot of the activities within this game seem really realistic as to what would go on in an organised crime group.

The melee combat, while extremely simplistic, is very fun. The guns are nicely authentic for a post - WW2 game but I don't find the gunfire to be all that satisfying, it's a little bit flat.

I liked this game for the story largely, the charm and realism makes it a really fun playthrough but like I said, as a remaster it's very flawed
