Undoubtedly a masterpiece, Elden Ring is a contender for the title of the greatest game ever. It effortlessly surpasses titles I once deemed perfect and makes me rethink my benchmark. To me, it is the natural evolution of the video game genre. It builds upon the foundation laid by Breath of the Wild in 2017, pushing gameplay and player exploration to unprecedented levels. Compelling narrative and character-building have certainly given us some of the best games of the last ten years (Red Dead Redemption 2, God of War), but no game I have ever played has consistently impressed me in terms of, quality, world-building, art direction and atmosphere while leaving the story so open for interpretation. Throughout my play-through, each encounter with a new area, boss, or secret elicited a genuine 'woah' out loud, leaving me consistently impressed and often doubting the game's ability to surpass itself. It also has a chill gigantic tortoise pope.

Aside from a few nitpicks here and there, my primary criticism centers on the absence of a quest log book. While I acknowledge that some players appreciate the sense of discovery in the main quest without such guidance, in my opinion, it proves somewhat vexing when engaging in side quests.
