6th Finished Game of 2023

Little Inferno (2012) + Ho Ho Holiday (2022) (Steam)

Oh Boy... and Little Inferno turned 10 years old...

Going back to the golden age of Indie games, World of Goo, Braid, Super Meat Boy... until there was Little Inferno, first Indie game that caused me some impact, a Sandbox about burning objects that ends questioning you "What is the meaning of life?", it's amazing that this game has passed a decade and you still remember details like combos and plot twists.

For those who missed it, Tomorrow Corporation released last year the DLC Ho Ho Holiday, a kind of celebration to the 10 years of the original game, in a kind of "What if...?" the DLC exchanges the co-protagonist Sugar Plumps for a new character named 8-Bit Nate, the game not only adds a new catalogue to burn, but creates a new alternate history that connects to another Tomorrow Corporation dev game.

"It's little hell
It's little inferno just for me
I've got the fireplace
That burns at a hundred billion degrees
It's little inferno just for me".

5th Finished Game of 2023

Earth Defense Force: World Brothers (2021) (Steam)

To finish, or better, give a break in the Earth Defense Force series, follows analysis of the game I played in parallel to the other games.

Spin-off of EDF, World Brothers has a voxel graphic style, game is a parody/homage to the whole franchise, including other spin-offs as well as original characters.

Different from the original games, here instead of classes with their variety of weapons, we have 62 characters with unique abilities and their respective weapons, each character has 3 variations (basically a change of colour palette with different stats), each character has a SP bar which is basically their unique 'ultimate' attack and a secondary ability such as rolling, flying, dropping mines, protective barriers, etc.

Game is divided in bringing all classes of his franchise and original characters, being nothing more than caricature dolls of various countries like Cowboys representing the U.S., Ninjas and Maids representing Japan, Sambistas representing Brazil and so on, history boils down to an entity called Dark Tyrant who starts the game literally destroying the planet Earth leaving to the characters rebuild the planet as if it were pieces of Lego.

Game is great and very entertaining, but fails by the repetivity, dozens of missions on the same map, as previously said variations of the same characters with different colour palette, after finished, game only instigates you in question of catch all the variations of weapons of each character.

4th Finished Game of 2023

Earth Defense Force 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair (2016) (Steam)

Fourth game in the Earth Defense Force franchise, I took advantage of the franchise marathon to play again the Steam version, The Shadow of New Despair is the definitive version of Earth Defense Force 2025 originally released for Xbox 360 and PS3.

EDF 4.1 is a remaster of the EDF 2 remake, officially considered the 4th game in the main franchise and second game post-reboot.

Particularly I would opt for the graphics of the Switch version of EDF 3, here they put a lot of reflection and more realistic textures that the game looks like a 'Ultra Realistic Shader' Minecraft.

Other than that, this version surpasses everything done so far, with 4 different classes, 2 totally new classes: Air Raider, support class that can summon aerial bombardment and support vehicles for the team and the Fencer class which is nothing more than a 'Tank' that can use 2 weapons simultaneously. Game has the absurdity of 825 weapons and 147 missions combining online mode and DLCs (89 in the main campaign).

Best entry point for those who want to start with the EDF franchise which, by the way, is where I started, game currently has versions for PS4,Steam and Switch.
