Because of the trailers I went in expecting a bigger focus on the story, specially since they would have the time to focus on that now given they wouldn't have to spend so much time tweaking the game's world and... I was deeply disappointed with it. Somehow BoTW's story works better, and that's saying something. However, the game adds SO MUCH to the table of BoTW's formula. The world is bursting with stuff to do, the verticality of the map adds so much exploration and I honestly fail to find a reason to go back and play BoTW if this game is now an option. I miss the champions, tho... But seriously, it's that good. The dungeons are kinda mid but a welcome addition if that means we're getting rid of the Divine Beasts, and Ganondorf is always welcome, even though the story doesn't utilize him properly. Also, MEMORIES. They had no business being in this game, EVEN MORE SO OUT OF ORDER. Seriously, they worked contextually in BoTW for an obvious reason, but the second Dragon Tear that I got was one of the last ones on the list, showing me climax of that storyline, and I had to sit through all the others already knowing how it ended. That was incredibly stupid and lazy on Nintendo's part. But yeah, despite the problems with the story, it builds on top of everything that makes BoTW so great, making it the superior choice. That's a testament to how good it is.

I was already a Zelda fan but had absolutely zero interest in this game, but a whole year after release I decided to give it a go and hoo boy, I had a blast. The lack of story was my biggest issue with it (given that Skyward Sword is my favorite Zelda for that reason), and the enemy variety is... sad, to say the least. But this game excelts in everything else and I always have a blast coming back to it.

I started the series with 5, but around 80% I got groundbreaking spoilers and decided to drop it for a while. I then decided to give this one a whirl, chose the Female Protagonist right away 'cuz it seemed like the logical choice since I couldn't do it in any of the other modern Personas and... I had one of the best experiences in gaming of my life. Despite its limitations, if you've never watched or played FES, you'll never feel like your experience is being affected by them, and there's quite some charm to the more VN pointer-based gameplay. Also FeMC's route adds a lot of value to the game with its fresh perspective and OST even better than the originals. My favorite protagonist and my favorite game in the series, I hope to see FeMC one day in reload. Only then it'll be the definitive version, until then, Portable still has its place.
