Bio
Just a bad gamer and wannabe musician.

The story and soundtrack are two things I gravitate towards in a game.
I enjoy watching friends play solo games more than I like to play solo games.

"The future is unwritten."

My friend and I had the chance to delve into "Past Within" a couple of months ago, and my feelings about the experience are quite mixed. The game offers a blend of captivating elements while also falling short in certain aspects, resulting in an overall moderate experience. Here's a breakdown of what stood out and where improvement is needed:

It is important to note, this game is not co-op technically. You do not have to invite a friend to play and both parties must own the game. There will be a series of questions that allow the game to set up; one player in the present, one in the past.

Pros:

Engaging Storyline: The game boasts an intriguing and complex storyline that drew me in from the beginning. The narrative weaves together various timelines, characters, and events, creating an immersive experience that keeps players invested.

Beautiful Visuals: The game's visual design is nothing short of stunning. The attention to detail in recreating historical settings is commendable, and it adds a layer of authenticity to the gameplay. I am a sucker for the type of art style that the game offers, so this was the best aspect of the game in my opinion.

Thought-Provoking Puzzles: The puzzles featured are thoughtfully crafted and require a mix of logic and creativity to solve. The aspect of yourself and your partner solving puzzles simultaneously while in two different eras was really captivating.

Cons:

Some aspects of Puzzles: While there were pros to the puzzles, there were also some frustrations. Directions were not always clear, to no fault of the partner. There were down times that each of us had to wait to figure out the next step without direction.

Character Development: While the storyline is intriguing, I found the character development to be lacking. Characters often felt one-dimensional, and I struggled to form a genuine connection with them. A deeper exploration of their motivations and emotions would have greatly enhanced the narrative.

*Note: I found the ending lackluster as well and that could have contributed to the lack of character development.

Pacing Issues: The pacing of the game felt uneven at times. Some segments dragged on, while others seemed rushed, disrupting the overall flow of the experience. A more consistent pacing could have contributed to a smoother gameplay journey.

All in all, not a bad little game if you want to spend a few hours with a friend. The puzzles are well crafted for the most part and offer thought-provoking challenges. If story and character development does not matter to you and you love puzzles, this is a great game to try.

"A Way Out" delivers a distinctive and engaging co-op gaming experience that stands out for its innovative split-screen gameplay and gripping narrative, but it's not without a few minor drawbacks.

I played this with my best friend, and we really enjoyed the constant communication we endured throughout the journey and escape. One of our favorite aspects of the game would have to be the interaction play of other games built in within the game; throwing darts, playing baseball, lifting weights, etc. While I have not played, I am told that It Takes Two also has these elements built-in within the game which makes me excited to play it next.

The most notable aspect is its split-screen presentation, which allows players to simultaneously follow the perspectives of both protagonists, Leo and Vincent. This mechanic adds a layer of immersion and teamwork, forcing players to collaborate closely to overcome challenges and progress through the story. This unique approach to co-op gaming fosters an enjoyable sense of camaraderie.

The game's narrative is a strong point, weaving a tale of prison escape, revenge, and redemption. Leo and Vincent are well-crafted characters with distinct personalities and motivations, which makes their journey compelling. However, there are moments where the storytelling can feel a bit clichéd, relying on familiar tropes to drive the plot forward.

The gameplay was very engaging. The variety of activities and challenges keeps things interesting. The game provides a nice balance of action and slower moments. There is one section of the game that changes fighting style as if you are fighting the guards playing a 1980s fighting arcade game.

Visually, the game boasts impressive graphics that capture the essence of the environments and characters. The attention to detail in the prison settings, outdoor landscapes, and urban areas is commendable and adds to the overall immersion.

The game excels as a co-op experience; however, it is not ideal for solo players. The game is designed exclusively for two players, which limits its accessibility to those who have a partner to play with. This design choice, while unique, might alienate some potential players who are looking for a more flexible experience.

In summary, the game brings a fresh and innovative approach to co-op gaming that is worth experiencing. Its split-screen mechanic and captivating narrative make for an engaging adventure that showcases the potential of cooperative gameplay. While there are some minor gameplay and storytelling issues, the overall package offers a memorable and immersive journey for those who appreciate communication and collaboration with a partner.

Tiny Tina's Wonderland is a delightful and whimsical adventure that combines the beloved Borderlands universe with a fantasy twist. This spin-off game offers a unique and refreshing experience, filled with humor, mayhem, and plenty of loot for all you loot goblins out there. Time to beat could be done in less that 20 hours; however, if you like exploration, looting, and completions be prepared to spend 45-50 hours.

The story revolves around Tiny Tina, the explosive-obsessed teenager from the Borderlands series, who takes on the role of the Bunker Master in her own wacky tabletop adventure. With her unique sense of humor and imagination, Tiny Tina guides players through a series of quests and encounters with a colorful cast of characters. The dialogue is cleverly written and humorous at times, and the voice acting is really well done.

One of the standout features of the game is its captivating setting. You are transported to a fantastical world, inspired by tabletop role-playing games (much like Dungeons and Dragons). The art design is vibrant, colorful, and full of character, bringing this imaginative realm to life. From lush forests to towering castles, every location is a visual treat, and it's a joy to explore the diverse landscapes.

Gameplay is reminiscent of the Borderlands series, with a focus on fast-paced action and cooperative play. Players can choose from a variety of character classes, each with their own unique abilities and playstyles. Whether you prefer blasting foes with explosive shotguns or casting devastating magical spells, the game offers plenty of ways to wreak havoc.

One of the game's highlights is the lootsplosion mechanic, where defeating enemies or opening chests results in a cascade of loot dropping onto the battlefield. You will also find a new element of combat options that is not compared to the Borderlands series. Additionally, players can customize their characters with various gear and skill trees, allowing for diverse and personalized playstyles.

While the game offers a fantastic experience, it's not without a few minor flaws. I found the navigation to be challenging and frustrating at times. Some players may find the humor a bit hit-or-miss, but I thought the humor was cute and witty and none of these drawbacks dampened my experience.

Overall, Tiny Tina's Wonderland is a delightful spin-off that successfully blends the beloved Borderlands formula with a whimsical fantasy setting. With its charming art style, engaging gameplay, and hilarious storytelling, it offers a wondrous and immersive adventure that fans of the series and newcomers alike will thoroughly enjoy. So, grab your explosive shotgun, cast a fireball spell, and prepare for a wild and unforgettable journey!
