every 3d platformer wishes they were him

It's really, really, really, REALLY weird that this game exists.

It's an interesting experiment. What if your actions in the game affected the real-money price of microtransactions? Of course, if every game unlock has a lowest possible price, then that is its value. Anything higher is just a waste of money.

...... It's REAAAALLY WEEEEEIRD that this game exists.

One of those games where even today you can feel how influential it was. Lotta repeated environments make some levels tedious but the combat is fun enough that I didn't mind that much, even when I had to replay half of the control room level because of a dumb death and bad checkpoint.

Also: the portrayal of the "marines"? EXTREMELY 2001.

I find it really weird how the design of every location, enemy, ally, weapon, and vehicle are so instantly iconic and yet the actual building the world part of worldbuilding is so muddy. How... big is the Pillar of Autumn, exactly? Where did it crash? I know, on Halo, but where? How are any of these spaces connected to each other? Almost all of the travel between locations happens off-screen. For being the title character, the Halo itself is pretty undefined.

Halo 1 is the only Halo campaign I've played so far, so I'm expecting that they really improved the storytelling once they knew this was going to be a massive franchise. Looking forward to it.

Gotta replay this every so often to make sure it's still the best game ever made.

July 2020 update: Yup, still is.

I like attempts to fuse rhythm mechanics into other types of gameplay, and this is one of those. The translation is not good but that's the preferred way to play Touhou fan games, honestly.

I don't usually take price into consideration but $55 is pretty steep. I got it on sale and can only recommend waiting for another, especially if you're the type to buy the plentiful DLC.

I never realized before the ending is almost identical to Galaxy's, except it doesn't work nearly as well and they wimp out at the last second.

This is the best Mario game because it has the best story.
