Unfortunately overrated, yet still worth playing once.
I got my hopes too high, but is that really my fault when this game has won the most awards for a video game EVER?
This isn't the behemoth that the larger gaming zeitgeist says it is. However it is still a very well polished horror themed action game, with lite survival elements, and a larger narrative focus than most games.
Nothing particularly original is in this game, but has many great recreations of familiar mechanics from some of the best games in the genre.
It feels like resident evil 4 and the Uncharted series had a baby that took itself very seriously and was obsessed with quick time events and cutscenes.
My biggest enjoyment is easily the combat and accessibility options. The levels usually consist of multiple mini battle arenas that you follow in a linear path. Yet due to the player having a well balanced amount of combat choices, on top of traversal options, it makes each battle arena feel more like a little sandbox, that can play out differently every time and much less linear. The accessibility options make this even better, with TLOU series offering much more settings to tweak combat and survival settings, compared to other games in the genre.
Back to the beginning of this review though. Really look it up yourself, this game has won more awards than any other game. Why? Well I'm pretty sure it's due to it's narrative, which has themes about trust, self preservation, and purpose. More specifically how the developers were able to weave that narrative into the gameplay, is what is often found to be so impressive.
It is incredibly hard for me to explain my biggest gripe with this game, which is it's story, especially because I like the themes and Joel and Elli as characters.
I'll split it my issue into two sections: firstly the pacing

It really is a shame that this is considered a 2.7/5 on average at time of my review.
After 3 games this is a nice change of pace and even though it plays quite different compared to the OG trilogy, it really shows how good an versatile the infrastructure of Gears game design can be.
I love the embracement of shorter levels with more specific gameplay elements being focused on during each level. It gives room for gimmicky things like a melee only level without forcing it on you for too long, and it doesn't even force it, it's entirely optional to play the specific gimmick of each level.
The star system just makes me want to replay all the levels I only got 2 stars on and with how good gears game are at rewarding your progress with cosmetics and achievements, I really do feel incentivized to keep playing!
The side modes are fun and I like inclusion of the brand new survival/overrun mode. Overrun reals like left for dead verse mode in the best way possible.
The story wasn't anything to brag about but it was nice insight into the characters and seeing things around E-Day, but its made up for with the new changes, weapons, and enemies!

Worms 2: Armageddon is a turn based, up to 4 player co-op, artillery tactics game. I also like to refer to it as a sandbox, side-scrolling, battle royale.
I have played and own every single worms game, but honestly have played most of them for only about an hour. However I do have dozens of hours on W.M.D, World Party, and this one.
That being said this is my favorite worms game.
The weapon roaster and level generator this time around are very versatile and replayable, always leading to an experience unlike the last.
Hands down, this game has the best art design. It's very colorful and bright, yet still very readable and clear.
Everything stands out and I always know what's happening, which is something I'd criticize some of the other Worms games for struggling with. This praise goes from the level themes to the user interface such as the weapon menu.
A final side note is something specific to the 360 era, but I just loved how and the ready up menu at the start of your turn, it would show your Xbox avatar making some sort of face or doing a pose. Helped remind whose team is whose and is just a nice detail!
The game has my favorite dialogue and character customization as well. Just many cleaver and funny choices to help my imagination when trying to make my own themed teams.
If I ever have a friend over, I offer to play some Worms and we always have a good time.
