19 years after Metroid Fusion had released the long awaited, and rumored sequel had finally released. Being touted as a saga conclusion the Metroid threat takes on a whole new form of meaning, and Dread. No pun inteneded. Samus must survive while being hunted by a cold and ruthless enemy, one of which is set to improve on the previous major encounters of Metroid Fusion and the SA-X. Being the second Metroid title developed by Mercury Steam, Metroid Dread was an instant success. One of the best looking games on the Nintendo Switch helps elevate the franchise. The game capitalizes on the action and exploration while bringing Samus’ mobility and animations to a level of satisfaction not many 2.5 3D titles have achieved.

After an 8 year hiatus 2D Metroid returned with Fusion. Metroid Fusion broke series conventions and rebranded Samus’ iconic look. The game introduced a new mechanic and threat that blended action and storytelling simultaneously. With that being said, many felt that the game’s linear design was a major step backwards in the experimentation allowed by Super. This exchange allowed players a more personal glimpse at Samus’ character and allowed the franchise to touch a bit more lore and confirming subtexts of past titles.
