19 years after Metroid Fusion had released the long awaited, and rumored sequel had finally released. Being touted as a saga conclusion the Metroid threat takes on a whole new form of meaning, and Dread. No pun inteneded. Samus must survive while being hunted by a cold and ruthless enemy, one of which is set to improve on the previous major encounters of Metroid Fusion and the SA-X. Being the second Metroid title developed by Mercury Steam, Metroid Dread was an instant success. One of the best looking games on the Nintendo Switch helps elevate the franchise. The game capitalizes on the action and exploration while bringing Samus’ mobility and animations to a level of satisfaction not many 2.5 3D titles have achieved.

After an 8 year hiatus 2D Metroid returned with Fusion. Metroid Fusion broke series conventions and rebranded Samus’ iconic look. The game introduced a new mechanic and threat that blended action and storytelling simultaneously. With that being said, many felt that the game’s linear design was a major step backwards in the experimentation allowed by Super. This exchange allowed players a more personal glimpse at Samus’ character and allowed the franchise to touch a bit more lore and confirming subtexts of past titles.

The third title in the franchise. Regarded as a peak in the franchise. Super Metroid would go on to inspire other 2D games to explore more depths. Super Metroid improved everything about the franchise up to this point. A deep world to explore with many surprises and challenging bosses, this title was made to cap off the franchise in a way the previous games could not achieve until now.

The action packed sequel to the original game. Despite being in black and white, it has incredible detail gor a Gameboy outing. Things like new movement and aiming angles, as well as save stations help this game immensely, However the repetitive boss fights (hunting Metroids), and a bit uninspiring map can turn some away. Something Suggested to play after becoming a bit familiar with the franchise.

A title worth exploring after playing much of the main series. Zero Mission should be tackled first so you could have a basic understanding of the layout. A game that pioneered 2D exploration and moody action.
