I did not beat the main story but with 60+ hours I can safely say this is the worst Disgaea I've played. The story and characters aren't engaging at all which is a shame because the artwork is always good. The designs are fine. On the surface this should be a decent Disgaea experience but it's not.

I have no issues with the 3D models but everything else is executed so poorly. Including the models! Not because they are 3D but because the animations for them are rehashed and they never have any unique ones. If they were going to nuke the game of so much character in place of the new look at least commit to it.

Speaking of 3D models, I'm assuming the change is why the Switch version nearly combusts when playing. I can;t speak for others bit the performance varied every time I loaded the game. A lot of overheating and stuttering just walking around the overworld. In battles it was worse.

Many of the staple Disgaea classes have been removed from this game for whatever reason. And they removed a lot of fun mechanics prior to Disgaea games just to add in a play itself feature. I don't mind the option but with everything else gutted what would be the point of it? The game seems to want to have f2p mobile mechanics but charge retail.

One positive is I like the reincarnation feature, I think this had potential to really be unique to this game but like everything else it feels bare bones and executed poorly.

Insult to injury, when it finally hit steam Nippon Ichi set it for $70. Same game with maybe a few dlc characters/color palletes. Not sure if they fixed anything because I wasn't paying that price.

No clue what Nippon Ichi was thinking with this one but this ain't it. Hope whenever Disgaea 7 releases that they learned from this one.

To start, this is a great game but the remaster sucks. I preordered this version and forgot and just ended up with it by accident because I forgot to cancel. A horrible accident, felt like a waste of money. I mean, I did. It's a terrible remaster with a lot of issues.

I'm sad to say that this is not the best version to experience Tales of Symphonia. It has a lot of issues from graphical to sound/audio and for me a couple of times halted progression from a glitch. Dialogue is missing in some scenes, you can hear the lower quality of audio and in some places it's just too loud and others its missing entirely.

I've also battled with graphical issues and for whatever reason they got rid of the more stylized black outline but in some areas of the game it returns?

I don't know what tf is going on with this remaster but it has so many issues that outweigh anything positive they managed to do. Best experience is the Gamecube version tbh if you have the means to emulate. Or maybe the PC version but I haven't played it to say if it has the same issues or not.

Had a lot of fun with this game. The battle system is fun and I liked the characters. The music is good overall but some tracks are hit or miss.

Ironically, this is the best release of this game. Well, in the US anyway. The recent Switch remaster is a joke and there's no access to the ps2 content otherwise (well, except emulation and fan translations).

It's very troupey and surface level at the start but the characters, themes and story delve past that when the twist kicks off the start of the real plot (a tales of staple, if released on multiple discc you wouldn't hit the start of the 'real' plot until the hypothetical disc 2).

It has new game plus but one thing I always head about Tales of games is the grade shop for the new game plus. Based on how well you played/battled you can buy stuff that carries over to a new game. Which you'll need if a completionist since the game does have missables which sucks for a 40-80 hour game. Despite having new game plus it's not new game plus friendly and a lot of missables is shit you'd never think to do if this is your first time with the IP or this game in general (like sleep at an in but only after a specific scene happens for a title you can't get otherwise).

Game is not perfect but it's one of my favorites. Epitome of when Tales of games released in a more complete state and let you unlock costumes/titles through gameplay and not be cut and sold to you separately.
