I bought this on sale like an hour before it became free on Steam. Honestly ok with that since it's both support to an indie dev and support to something this fun to just get lost in.
It's nice having something where getting lost isn't a problem.

Technically completed, I did 100% the arcade mode, which isn't too much of a task. The main issue comes with the career mode not having a real final tournament or anything. So I got about 40% through career mode and gave up since the progression really starts to wear itself thin once you get endurance races unlocked. Insanely long career mode, too.

Not so great career progression aside, it works. Would've been a really good time for XBox users in 05 for sure, but with all the future titles there's not too much reason to play through this one other than curiosity or nostalgia. Good handling, good selection of cars for it being the only OG XBox Forza, difficulty felt kinda sporadic but oh well.

It's pretty good, I'd probably recommend playing through arcade mode so you have more freedom. Won't have any cars you unlock through career if you do it first, but you can pick whatever's already unlocked.

Gave up on the Golden Capital Act 2 boss fight, so really I only had like 5 levels left after that. But, I was not having a good time even from the beginning. I think the looks sold me on this game, and that's all there was to it. Just the looks. The controls weren't horrible, but it was a matter of how fun it was to play. It wasn't. I know the levels did have some branching paths, but even then it still managed to feel oddly linear for a 2D Sonic game. That and some levels lasted way longer than they needed to. Every act 1 had an extra boss, so there was a boss each level and all of those were just as bad. Especially the Golden Capitol one I gave up on that was a 5 minute autoscroller that reset to the beginning if you died. So just a mix of shit levels, shit bosses, not much feeling of accomplishment after everything lasts way longer than it should, and another problem I haven't seen many people mention, the camera being a bit too close to the screen. Idk, I think I'm just even more disappointed after expecting a 2D Sonic game to be decent. Like even my least favorites (SA2 (sorry), CD (also sorry), and Shuffle) have more redeeming factors than this. It just felt like they knew Mario Wonder was in the works before it got announced and were like "hey we can make that too". Didn't work out too well imo.

Hard af and I'll never beat it, heard 2 improves on that but it was too late.
Shame because Blinx had huge mascot potential, just needed something a bit more accessible to everyone. John Halo is fine, but he's not a cat. Just not a fan of more serious mascots like him, personally. They gotta be scrimblos like Blinx.

ive only played this one so far so idk what to expect from 2 but im gonna be really fuckin disappointed if the mouse boy doesnt get pegged in 2 or 3

Not bad but the eagle dude looks like a penguins of madagascar character
not fond of him

Being dead honest, I've barely played the modern version of this so this rating isn't really much for it.
I played A Lot of this around 2006-10 tho, maybe even earlier. At least early enough that Knuckles still had the really fucked up wall climbing sprites and jumping on the roof of that house in the first level sent you to hell. Also remember Zim's house being an official mp level in it and spending a lot of time on servers running that.
Still had an insane amount of fun with all the mods and hangout servers back then tho.

Some of my first exposure to racism (at least online) and porn at the same time thanks to the pixel art servers

would go even harder if they all had various stock screams when they popped

I swear to god I've beaten this game 3 times and can only remember like 3 levels from it. Each time I played it again, I didn't remember well over half of it.
Like being unmemorable is one thing, but to the point where I question if I'd even beat it before those other 2 times? Is this game real? Did I hallucinate this?

Actually loved this on my first playthrough and had it at 4.5 at first.
Second playthrough was when I realized you can get through it in like 2 hours if you hard focus on it and it's not a fun 2 hours either. But hey you can make your character look like a gamer with a thousand yard stare after witnessing a public beheading so that's cool I guess

I remember for years I thought this wasn't all that bad, but the thing is I never got halfway into it. And it is just ok at best if all you're doing is checking it out. Just once you actually decide to beat it, that's when it sucks. Experiencing the whole game for yourself just isn't ideal imo. Play like an hour at most, then watch the rest if you really want to. Please don't suffer.

I never really got the hype behind this one, but the soundtrack fucks at least

Ignoring multiplayer/online for this review as I don't really care to try it.
Also correct me if it's not completed, I beat every tour on Builder's Cup (save for open tour since it rotates monthly) and nothing else showed up so I honestly have no idea if that's all singleplayer gives you outside of monthly events or what.

Either way, I'll repeat "built from the ground up". What this game was marketed with.
It wasn't built from the ground up, this is just F7 again when you play singleplayer. I've heard online is a much different experience, though.
Singleplayer, however, is kinda lame tbh. There's only one cup and then the rest is a couple cups that cycle out monthly, with each part of it being unlocked weekly. No little bonus challenges, minigames, etc. like in 7. Just race after race. Only racing. Not many tracks as of now, either. Really wore itself thin very early on. It's all just very repetitive for a Forza game.
As for bugs and all, idk I didn't really see any. Just a flickering texture for a second every now and then. It's really all just a game as a whole issue for me. Like it does control well and all, but it's hard to have fun when there's not really progression for singleplayer now aside from leveling up cars (which also wasn't executed very well here).

idk this is just disappointing more than anything

Think of this like a car. It's got a new coat of paint, just don't pay attention to the missing bumpers. Or the missing side panels.

There's really not /too/ much missing here, but it's still weird when you realize how stripped down this is compared to 1 so far. Like I have hope they'll eventually add a lot more in and just work on it, but as of now I just feel a bit conflicted. Like it is a good game, but I feel like they probably weren't ready to put it out just yet.
