I played Fallout 4 in April of 2019 and finally put it down one year later in April of 2020. This is after having picked it up, tried it, and stopped playing in May of 2017. It was one of the games that got me really into single player stories (after playing really only multiplayer games since 2016). I know it isn't everyone's favorite, but it has a special place in my heart as my favorite Fallout game. I really enjoyed the settlement mechanic, as it was always cool to go back to my main base at Sanctuary and build. I have played the base game and all DLCs, but did not 100% it.

Story: 7/10. It's a pretty cookie cutter story, with the neat time-travel gimmick. I already was spoiled the Shaun plot-twist before I played, but it was still interesting. I decided to side with The Railroad for my playthrough, and definitley don't regret it. The highlight for me was getting to know all the factions (except the Minutemen) and their bases.

Characters: 6/10. The characters are pretty... Bethesda. That is to say soulless. Although! There are exceptions. Most of the ally characters (especially Nick and Codsworth) are very unique, likeable, and have a carefully crafted story of their own. As well, the protagonist and Shaun aren't terrible, but aren't excellent either.

Combat: 8/10. I can't lie. The combat system is pretty broken. I liked how I could easily switch between different classes and styles, and the power armor vs. non-power armor benefits and negatives had me constantly switching between them. VATS was so much fun to play with. In the late game, I turned into a melee-VATS build without power armor, and was able to attack enemies from dozens of metres away and instantly teleport to them. As broken as this was, it made me feel like a god!

Gamplay / Content: 8/10. There's a lot of stuff to do in this game, and most of it is fetch quests. This brings down the quality of the missions, but it makes the good ones stand out; all the vaults are fun to explore, Goodneighbour's missions are fun, and all the companion quests are great. Also, I really enjoyed the settlement systems; they were probably my favorite part of the game.

World: 7.5/10. The world has plenty of content, but it's quite grey in color which can make exploring a bit bland. Even so, Diamond City and most of the settlements are great! Thankfully, this problem is fixed in the two DLC maps; Nuka World and Far Harbor are both fun, with the former's atmosphere especially being a joy to play in.

Traversal: 6/10. The redeeming factor for this is Diamond City radio. It makes going to different locations exciting, and I like how Travis will comment on your different accomplishments. Aside from that (and the Jetpack on the power armor), it gets pretty boring pretty fast (and there isn't much spectacle to look at in the world).

Problems: I mean. Its a Bethesda game, so you're bound to have some issues with things like AI and emotionless faces on character's faces while talking, but they by no means ruin the game.

Favorite Part: Diamond City Radio.
Least Favorite Part: Numerous fetch quests (made enjoyable by the combat).
