Free superchats on sign up means you can blast "wearing my james sunderland c o c k ring" on screen and change the canon of Silent Hill.

Spending real money to vote on what cutscenes you want to watch already sounds like a terrible premise for a 'game,' but adding a battle pass to a Silent Hill product with fun stickers that say things like "IT'S TRAUMA!" and khaki's for your loser Silent Hill OC are proof positive that Konami hasn't changed and nobody with any direct influence over the IP knows what the hell to do with it. At least Jacob Navok, CEO of developer Genvid, shows up at the end of each episode to die a little more in front of the cameras. Everyone keeps voting for the options Jacob doesn't want, and it's all the result of some cabal of bad actors that apparently nobody could've accounted for or put functional moderation in place to curb. Watch as a flawed man withers away, night after night, trapped in a nightmare and punished for his deeds.

Jacob would like you to believe that the monetization is intended for you to save time, and is useful more to bypass puzzles than rock the vote. I guess that's a fair point, I mean these puzzles have to be designed bad on purpose, that's how you monetize them! Eurogamer's article about Ascension's economy is a great read, just let all these numbers and stats wash over you and remind yourself it's all for a Silent Hill game.

Oh well, at least we have a Bloober Team remake of Silent Hill 2 to look forward to...

Hey lets be fair, f could end up being great! Idk about you but I'm fucking thrilled to be "spending" $70 on the antisemitic version of SH2

Everything about this game's existence upsets me.

You know I'm just about to finish my first playthrough of SH1 and between the relative difficulty of getting my hands on the original 2 and 3, the HD remaster debacle and now stuff like this I'm starting to think maybe I should just finish up the first one and quit while I'm ahead. Seems like a franchise that's gone completely off the rails.

@hilda I think I usually come up positive on remakes but boy, Bloober Team...

@FallenGrace Me too, fella. Me too.

@cowboyjosh The first three are all fantastic, and I'd argue The Room does some interesting things despite dropping off in quality. Everything else, though, yikes. At least they feel so disassociated from the original games that you can safely ignore them.

It amazes how Konami keeps doing everything in their power to throw their franchises out the window for the sake of the moola. This isn't even justifiable as a ''little experiment'', this is an outright monetisation hellscape...

im thinking Silent Hill is back

@DeemonAndGames I think they said they want to run it for 16 weeks. I'm pretty sure most people will stop having fun at its expense well before that and it'll die in a vacuum.

@Snigglegros The true Silent Hill experience is watching Jacob Navok deteriorate, the show is a means to an end.

Maybe it's a high concept piece and they're trying to show how this world is "the other place"...

^yeah. for all we know we're all living in a collective Silent Hill, being haunted by the memory of a once-great franchise and forced to relive its corporate execution every time they try to do something with it

I believe Im not exaggerating when I say its "incredible" that this thing exists. Someone, somewhere, thought this would work, or work well enough, or work at all.

They say capitalism breeds innovation, and Im inclined to agree - we're clearly charting new and terrible waters here. More new and more terrible each and every month it feels like.

You have to admit Konami came in clutch with the most abhorrent interactive experience of the year. I am sick to my stomach to witness it; and knowing this is probably the bar of quality that awaits us for other Silent Hill stuff if this was allowed to exist and be released.

@cowboyjosh Does this mean I can be Pyramid Head?

@_YALP It's like a Katamari of every terrible practice to milk consumers that the gaming industry has concocted over the last 15-odd years, and it's not surprising to me that it's coming from Konami of all places.

@TyphoonSwell My expectations are incredibly low for Konami, but to put something out that is worse and further off the mark of what Silent Hill is than Book of Memories is kind of incredible to me. I'd maybe feel more dread about what this means for their upcoming projects but I'm pretty much in full on "burn the whole house down" mode. Better to have nothing than whatever the hell this is.

This is the fate Silent Hill fanboys deserve for their overbearing, unwarranted praise of the first three games.

Silent Hill should have stayed dormant.

Genuinely Silent Hill Ascension is reputation marring slop. Konami have pulled some absolute hogwash bullshit with this franchise that people say should've been done at Silent Hill 3 or 4 depending on who you ask, but nobody could have imagined we would go lower than fucking Silent Hill Homecoming

I honestly damn Kojima Productions and Company for Silent Hills....it did the worst thing that none of these absolute tone deaf, blunt, ugly travesties have done: Silent Hills gave us hope, new ideas, and mind scarring horror that still messes with my perceptions all these years later. It did the worst thing a Silent Hill game post 3+4 can do: Give us hope and high expectations, because for a decade plus, Konami has been dedicated to milling it's remaining thin good will towards it's series and works for cheap, quick, dirty bucks.

I weep for Ryukishi07's team that is working on Silent Hill F, they have to be going through hell right now for daring to have "ideas" and "wanting games to be more than just merchandise pumping machines".

Bloober Team and Konami are a match made in Hell and are the perfect bags of sleaze for each other. Cynical pork-barreling corporate publisher fucks that hate art, and a development studio that hates video games, game players, horror itself as a method/genre of storytelling, Bloober Team and Konami think they're so fucking above it all and slosh around in their own bitter cynicism together like pigs in shit.

This game is useless dross, and is only a taste of the bad times we're really in for.
