Look, its not comparable to early silent hill and i think its unfair to do so. long before this rendition, the silent hill name has been desecrated as a cash cow. This is not revolutionary or even particularly deep but for the love of god can people chill tf out LOL i know its cool to be a hater and everyone is hive minded but its not THAT bad. i wasn't the target audience as a 27yo woman but i can feel myself really enjoying this when i was younger and maybe my taste wasn't so refined and things needed to be a little less obscure. You can see the shortcomings very clearly, japanese devs trying to make something for americans (westerners) translation that isnt great hence the hilariously bad "ugly!" "stupid!" "weirdo!" schizo post-its and dialogue, some truly terrible english voice acing in some parts - I thought the PC was voiced pretty well though.
Enjoy it for what it is; a 2-3 hour, FREE little practice teaser of the type of horror and aesthetics that is to come from KONAMI's hexadrive (who are new devs apart of KONAMI). It was so very obviously meant to be for younger people, mainly girls and it was littered of references to past silent hill games - even very much PT. The devs clearly love and respect silent hill IP let them find their footing and hate on KONAMI all you want but leave the lil guys out of it.
plus, again, IT IS FREE, $0.00
I love silent hill, its been apart of my identity for some time, maybe im just becoming a boomer on the internet by this point but i wish we didnt all have such hate boners for everything, just like, move on and let the teenage girls enjoy things if they want.
plus music and monster was amazing but that is not a surprise.

one of the best games of all time, try go into it completely blind, don’t read anything don’t look up guides unless you’re really really stuck.
phenomenal work from Mobius insane that they made a game THIS good as a first try lol

A masterpiece in video games with yoko taro yet again pushing the boundaries of what a video game can be and taking you through an experience that will quite literally change how you see life.
Nier Automata is a game for the people who love games and want to see something further than just fun combat. it undoubtedly has very fun combat that you can spend a long time perfecting to feel like an absolute badass but, Automata is so much more than that.

an emotional journey that will have you in an existential crisis then hold your hand in making you fall in love with life and the people around you through 2B, 9S and A2.
you will be subtly educated on real life philosophers that have varying views ranging from nihilism to pacifism. Learn the meaning of life and finish the game feeling reflective. Yoko Taro is a master at story telling and the repetition that some people complain about with nier games is an important form of story telling that has a purpose. it’s not just to pad the game, it’s to make you reflect, it’s to make you make assumptions and then the following time around completely change your point of view and then make you reflect on why you had those judgments in the first place. its a very sociological kind of game - why are people the way that they are, why do we do the things that we do, and that we are all simply mirrors of eachother and therefore we should ultimately be empathetic first.
the internal struggle of 9S is probably the most complex story line and should be paid very close attention too (even though his combat might not be as enjoyable)
i will encourage anyone and everyone to try Nier and keep an open mind the the journey it will take you on. it will leave you a better person.

Where to even begin..
i have over 500 hours in this game, played it several times still launch and still find new things
Rockstar always delivers on quality, the game is wonderfully optimised on the playstation and although released in 2018 still holds up as if it was released today. game play is fun, you can be so creative with how you want to tackle a task. the world feels real and almost endless with new things to discover and learn every playthrough. The horse mechanics are the closest a video game has ever gotten to what it’s like to ride a horse IRL while still being ya know a video game mechanic. Bit of a horse girl myself and the attention to detail is incredible.

The story SPOILER WARNING

Arthur is one of the best men in video games, he is undoubtedly a strong masculine figure while being kind, sensitive, intellectual, and complex. He can be heartless but he isn’t /really/, he is a good role model and protector of those he cares about. His relationships with fellow gang mates and the complexities of interpersonal relationships are done so realistically you can truly feel immersed as arthur.
A beautiful, funny, exciting and tragic story that will leave you crying and feeling like arthur was actually a guy who lived in 1899.
it’s one of the best games of all time, and it’s sold so many copies yet still kind of feels underrated (i know that sounds stupid hear me out) compared to GTA it’s such a mature story and takes the player seriously.
Online is sadly an abandoned mess, while still very enjoyable and still very much alive almost impossible to play on PC (in my experience so many cheaters) but there’s lots of “easter eggs” to discover in online as well as further context on some of the world building.

ANYWAY PLAY THE COWBOY GAME

so bad but i loved it when i was 14
