Quite possibly one of the worst Pokemon games I've ever played. I feel like the story fell flat on its face, literally cannot remember what the plot even was. The characters had no substance, you have 4 different rivals which is just way too much for any development to go on at all. Shauna was the one you saw the most so she's the one I remember the most as well- I feel like if it was just her and maybe the other player character rival, I think it could've been fine, but adding the other two just made it far too complicated.
I don't remember any of the gym leaders personalities, I played this game after SW/SH and S/M, so those were my experiences with Pokemon characters, so I had expected that, at least, the Gym Leaders would have a personality. Didn't! They got maybe two lines of dialogue and you never saw them again. I don't even remember any of their names aside from Wulfric, who did actually have a personality. The story was so scattered that I didn't even remember the importance of the Floette until the end. The bad guy (forgot his name) was unimportant and I don't think I saw him for the latter half of the game.
It was very easy to get lost. The city was so complicated and I would spend 10 minutes just rollerskating around trying to find the place I needed to go. They don't tell you anything. Near the final route, I got extremely lost and ended up finding a cave system that I had assumed was the path to the end-- it wasn't. It was an optional grinding spot and I spent over 30 minutes inside of it. If that wasn't bad enough, when I finally got out (had to use an escape rope) I had to find a guide just to move on, because the entrance to the next route was completely hidden. For a kid's game, I found myself turning to online guides and videos way too often just to get through certain sections.
The new Pokemon designs were fine, I guess, despite it having the least amount of new Pokemon introduced. The introduction of the fairy typing was pretty nice, of course, I love Slyveon. The Flabébé line and the Froakie line are my favorites, I can't particularly remember any Pokemon aside from those that really stood out to me. The gameplay is mostly fine, I didn't have that many problems with it. Mega Evos was a fun little thing! In a better game, I think I would've appreciated it more.
The playtime system was interesting, but generally on a 3DS, it has its problems. The "mimicking" face game could have been cool, but it just doesn't account for that many face types and situations. I read that lighting would make it better, but most of the time, it wouldn't recognize a smile because of my face type.
Personally, haven't played B/W yet, but I assumed going from that (which is famously a good game) to this must've been disappointing to Pokemon fans. They focused a lot on the 3d aspects of it and I think completely shoved everything else to the side.

0.5 out of 5. Play Sun and Moon instead.

Compared to the last game, this story is a lot better! The characters are a bit more developed, and I like that your twin is always on your team no matter what, really proving that they've become closer after the last game! Loved the time-travel plot- It's fun to see characters you recognize from previous games in the future and characters from this current game in the past. Again, aside from more "of the time" fat jokes (expected, but disappointing nonetheless) the writing is pretty decent again. In the last game I liked Everett and Lucy but they didn't have a lot of character moments, mainly focusing on the twins (I'm almost certain that Lucy only got like, 2 lines of dialogue or so before she joined the party) but in this game I liked the characters a lot more. Monty was my favorite :)
Aside from the story, the gameplay I think is what brought the score down a bit. It's fun and I think if I hadn't played the previous game before playing this (which I hadn't when I first played this) I'd like the battle mechanics a lot more, but I think the first game is a lot better. Each costume had specific quick-time-events, so if you could have a chance to have a team with three completely different quick-time-events, that which makes it fun and exciting! In this game, all the attacks are the same- hitting the corresponding button at the right time and either getting a "great!" or "amazing" (the buttons are different per character but it's still all the same) I feel like it could be fun, but it gets painfully repetitive after a while. The first few battles, before you get a better costume for your twin, were hard to sit through. The Candy Corn costume was a very funny bit, and it's good if you like to have a designated defense character, but again. Painfully repetitive. I felt like I was slogging through the first few battles. The specials are cool! I like how the special charge carries over from battle to battle, which is something I think was lacking in the other games. However! I really really loved Battle Stamps in the previous game. It was one of my favorite features and it made battles a lot easier and more fun (ex: some battle stamps allowed you to counterattack! How fun!) and I think getting rid of those in exchange for Creepy Treat cards (which had much more boring designs in this game :( I liked how they looked in the last game) you have to waste a turn mid-battle to use them and don't allow a lot of the cool powerups that the previous game was a major downfall. I think if given more chances to grind or just give more exp for some enemies, I'd forgive it more, but there weren't a lot of chances for either and I felt a bit under-leveled and weak in some battles.
I liked the character designs again, but some of the costumes were a tiny tiny bit boring. You don't get a lot of costumes back to back to back like in the previous game, which makes sense for the story, but it left me a tiny bit bored with the designs. Though, the powerups were a really good idea, being able to both up a character's stats and change their costume design was cool! The enemy design wasn't all that memorable- I loved the bosses though! The time lord guy I forgot the name of had the coolest design possible. The little time witches were cool too. The dentist robots were neat, I liked the designs of those a lot.

Liked the game but it's definitely not as cool gameplay-wise as the previous game. Liked the story a lot, though! 3 out of 5, another good family game.

Enjoyable game! The characters were enjoyable and the plot was very silly but that's to be expected for a family game- but it makes it all the more fun :) The costume designs themselves as well as the enemy designs were excellent! I love the cartoony artstyle. I felt like the battle backgrounds were very synonymous, but I think that's mostly because I wasn't paying too much attention, similar color palettes and all that. I loved the different areas, with the mall coming to mind as my favorite section of the game.
The different costume abilities were fun to explore- I do wish that some costumes that didn't have any did. Their abilities in battles were cool! I definitely stuck to particular costumes and didn't change them out very much, but I did try almost all of them out. There are some costumes I expected to be a bit cooler (French Fries had an awesome disguise- just didn't hit as well as I wanted.) but I still enjoyed them all nonetheless. I don't remember any particular complaints with the battle mechanics, I love turn-based games and quick-time events so it's kind of the perfect game for me.
Aside from some "of the time" jokes, I think the writing's fine. It's not anything revolutionary but I don't anyone would expect it to be. Just silly!

A solid 3.5 out of 5 for me, a very good family game if you or a kid want to play it!
