no wonder people don't remember viscount

it's an interesting anomaly of the crash franchise and i honestly think the visual style is pretty cute for what it is. too bad it's simply just not fun to play.

the best free kart racing game out there and i can play as ralsei in a mercedes-benz

on par with drakengard in the sense of "it has a super intriguing setting and cast but is also incredibly difficult for me to recommend because of the heavy subject matters it has (also the fact that the rereleases didn't cut out the slurs gig tends to drop in his dialogue)"

but damn if this isn't one of the best of NIS's non-disgaea library and a hidden gem of ps2 srpgs. very much worth a playthrough if you feel you can handle it.

rang combat feels a lot more fun this time around but man most of this game felt like minigames and escort missions rather than platforming

didn't grow up with this or any of the other creatures games when i was a kid, but even in current years this is one of the more interesting digital toyboxes i've played around with. just a treat to explore and surprisingly in-depth as far as virtual pets and life sims go, especially for something from way back in the early 2000s.

if you wanna give it a try, Docking Station is free on steam (with C3 available as paid DLC for cheap). creatures is so much more complex than it seems on the surface, but it's an interesting little experience for those with the right mindset and patience for it. you're absolutely going to have A Time trying to get the little buggers to listen to you though.

admittedly this is a bit of w downgrade in all but graphics compared to UT2004 or even UT1999. still pretty solid and a p fun time, just lacks a lot of the heart and balance that past UTs had. prob explains why people don't play this one a whole lot nowadays.

imagine selling roms for two crappy games running in snes9x

EDIT: so apparently piko interactive was responsible for this rerelease which honestly Explains A Lot.

alongside crash team racing nitro fueled, i'm forever going to be angry that mario kart is more popular than this when it genuinely feels so much more fun to play. not to mention the arcade-y aesthetic, dynamic track designs, and music just slap so hard.

and heavy from TF2 is a playable racer in the pc port. also ryo races in a outrun cabinet.

arguably one of the best games on the 3DS, and one of the best moncolle games of its generation.

but i still gotta dock a point for how awful the pacing is for the first several chapters.

story and cast are a bit weaker than YW2 and the revamped battle system is a point of contention (especially since everyone in online battles insists on using solar enma), but YW3 is by no means a bad game. hell, once you get over the hump halfway through the story, you'll discover plenty of things to do in the world of yokai watch 3 compared to its predecessors.

this is easily the most content-packed of the 3ds yokai watch games. two playable characters to swap between in a MASSIVE world, dozens of collectables and minigames to discover, and a recruitable roster of yokai that'd make alola's national dex blush. there's even a mystery-dungeon-like sidegame where you can explore dungeons with your recruited yokai in action-rpg style!

unfortunately, all this means the difficulty is a little bit skewed and after a certain point, it can become very easy to break the game in two. especially if you end up "accidentally" powerleveling your yokai in aforementioned mystery dungeon sidegame to the point where most of the story battles become trivial. like i did. oops.

there's also three postgame-level elite yokai you can easily recruit before the final story boss that are well over his recommended level.

y-yeah.

that aside, this is still a great time and it's easy to sink a lot of hours just exploring everything YW3 has to offer. i'd still recommend YW2 as a starting point especially since the gameplay changes, amount of content, and crappy early-game pacing might be daunting to some. that, and uh. good luck with finding a physical copy of this at an affordable price!

i'm kicking the rat kid into orbit for making me go through that mushroom sidequest.

this is the first yokai watch game i ever played. even as a grown adult, i've never played a moncolle game that manages to recapture that feeling of playing pokemon red for the first time quite like this. i know people are so quick to dismiss yokai watch and other moncolle games as "pokemon clones", but really the only thing that makes them similar is. well. monster collecting.

battle system will take some getting used to if you're new to the franchise; yokai battle on their own since battles are real-time instead of turn-based, though the player will be involved through skillful yokai placement/rotation and item use, as well as activating their yokai's super skills. it's not nearly as complex as it sounds, but you can still come up with some interesting team compositions with the right yokai.

imo, the real heart of yokai watch is in just how it feels as an experience. the setting feels very comfy and homely and does a great job of combining the familiarity of real life with the supernatural antics of the yokai. the yokai themselves have some great designs, and even the human cast has some fun and varied charadesigns going on. the yokai themselves even feel like their own characters instead of just being creatures to populate a monster-collecting setting.

as for the story, it's a fun time! obviously don't expect anything too complex considering this is still a kids' game, but the interactions with the cast are pretty funny and the main antagonist is pretty great! some of the postgame story stuff can be a bit of a tearjerker as well.

overall, yokai watch 2 is just a really fun experience if you're willing to give it a shot, and it's arguably a better starting point than the first game. i'd recommend playing the psychic specters version if you can find a copy (digital probably, good luck finding a phys copy) as it has much more postgame content. if you can't find PS, the other two YW2 versions are also good starts!

some damn good pinball. gen3 one on gba has better physics and more interesting gimmicks, but the original gbc version is still a classic and super challenging if you want to go for a huge score or the full pokedex.

with how TPC really likes milking gen1/kanto for all its worth nowadays, i wouldn't mind if they made a current-gen version of this.

the Pokemon Pinball Generations hack is also worth looking into if you're a johto fan.

the fact that we never got another poke pinball game after gen3 is a crime, this is still one of the best spinoff pokemon games. still feels so good to play.

until the management gets their shit together, just get tabletop playground instead.

one of popcap's best. absolutely engrossing to me as a kid and still pretty fun replaying it as an adult. the lil virtual tank sidefeature also makes for a cute screensaver.

though, if you plan on replaying this, get yourself an autoclicker. your finger will thank you.

yeah, baby's first monster hunter, but that honestly isn't a bad thing by any stretch. i'm never going to understand why people treat making a "hardcore"/"niche" series' later installments more accessible as a bad thing.

i feel like this is a good starting point if you're new to the monhun franchise in general. there's still a pretty steep learning curve especially for later hunts, but the new mobility options like the wirebug and rideable dog partners help speed up the pace of hunts. there's a dozen weapon types, each with their own unique playstyle, but you don't need to use ALL of them to be successful (besides, i don't think a single person knows how to use the insect glaive).

once you get familiar to the flow of the game and how to use your chosen weapon, everything else should come fairly naturally. prep work before hunts, hunt monsters, get stuff from them to make new armors and weapons, rinse and repeat.

overall just a fun time all around if you don't mind playing a "tougher" action game. just dang, i wish people in online were a little smarter in hunts. please stop capturing every monster in a hunt. please.
