Stay tuned because we also have an amazing Frito-Lay Gaming Announcement Minute coming up from one of your favourite video game developers, that's right folks, fans of Coronation Street: The Mystery of the Hotpot will be delighted to hear about an all-new VR experience that is coming exclusively to Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Xbox Cloud Gaming and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate next year. Wow. Okay let's get to the games awards!

BEST MULTIPLAYER
Hits the perfect sweet-spot required for a Zoom Call With The Boys - each match is basically 15 minutes of RPG-style crate-looting and map traversal that ends in a comedic coinflip of a gunfight. Player expression through aesthetic customisation and gameplay options is some of the broadest in the industry, gunplay is accessibly tight, visceral and satisfying, content comes at you faster than you can keep up with over the age of 12, and matches start and end faster than you have time to contemplate them in any real depth - which is exactly what you want from multiplayer fun. Get over yourself and give it a try.
BEST SOUNDTRACK
Sounds like a facile nomination but I can't think of another game this year that blended its music within and outwith its gameplay quite so seamlessly. Unfortunately, it made me into a Radiohead fan.
BEST AESTHETIC
Slim picking this year, and CRTvision is already outliving its welcome, but I think this was a well-considered composition that was made all the more impressive given the size and budget of the team working on it. Might have soared even higher if it believed more in itself and less in its parentage.
BEST NARRATIVE
Genuine appreciation for this wikicentric approach to video game storytelling that allows players to opt in and out of narrative without the shame of PAUSE -> SKIP CUTSCENE.
BEST GAMEPLAY
The most unbalanced a Monster Hunter game has ever been, but I think there's something to be said for recognising how fun a mechanics-set is and accepting that players should be allowed to go apeshit with it. And the monsters deserve to suffer anyway.
GAME OF THE YEAR 2022
An inspirational tale of how one "developer" and a pixel-remapping tool managed to repackage the same product two years running.
