lorb reviewed Persona 5
DISCLAIMER/FYI: I just want to say that I haven't played Persona 5 Royal yet (though I do plan to at some point), so that's why I have just the base Persona 5 in my favorites instead of Persona 5 Royal (although from what I know it's probably safe to say it would take Persona 5's spot).

In my eyes, giant RPGs like Persona 5, ones with a ton of content that can take 100+ hours to complete fall into one of two categories. Category 1: A journey that perhaps starts off charming but inevitably collapses onto itself and devolves into some sort of monotonous grind fest. Or, Category 2: An experience so immersive and engrossing you'll forget the world around you even exists. Now, a lot of the bigger RPGs are based around leveling up and grinding to get strong enough to complete challenging quests, like World of Warcraft, so the fall into category 1 for certain games is understandable. However, the Persona series has never been like other RPGs. Persona 5 is a game that you play one day at a time for almost an entire year. The majority of the time that you'll spend in this game doesn't come from searching for hundreds of collectibles, or grinding out levels to max out your gear, it comes from simply playing through the story. You aren't completing a series of quests or travelling to complete some sort of journey, you are stepping into the shoes of a person and living his life for a year. It's an experience unlike anything I've ever witnessed in a game before. Even though the days don't pass in real time, it's a lot of time to be spending in this world that Atlus has created. And as you may have guessed by now, Persona 5 is the shining example of a category 2 RPG.

I have never played a game as engrossing and immersive as Persona 5. Granted, I haven't played any other games in the series, but from what I know the only games that could compete with it is the Persona 3 remake and mayyyybe Persona 4. Regardless, Persona 5 is a game like no other. This game will make you forget about your real life, for better or for worse. I remember Cr1tikal said that he was cancelling plans with his friends in real life to go hang out with his friends in this game, and while I can't personally attest to this observation (because I played this game during the Covid lockdown), it's a good way to explain the magic of this game. Persona 5 is able to utilize its massive length to immerse the player entirely, and it is incredible.

Ok so, let's talk about the story.
