Fun to play and the writing is goofy. The constant form changes and mix-n-matching abilities between them are a blast. How all these move sets and passives work together is a testament to the excellent game design. Just the right depth and consistently engaging. The only thing I’m not crazy about is the art style, but that’s mere indifference.

I’m a solo player. I want a linear narrative. I don’t want to play with other people. I definitely don’t want to build anything. Meet Your Maker is the exception. Raiding other player-made bases is fun. Building bases for other players to raid is fun. Heck, it’s even more fun co-op. I never expected an online-only game to hook me this hard.

Having a blast and falling asleep thinking about new base builds.

Narrative is a huge letdown. Shooting is still great. All in on this evolving experience.

Great city builder in your pocket. Kept me entertained for a quite a few hours.

Great concept. But the gameplay did not speak to me. Much more tedious and frustrating than I expected.

Excellent experience all the way through.

Exactly what I want from a Ratchet & Clank game. Had a blast.

Short and fun! I liked how objectives changed regularly so levels never felt stale. My favorite part is the paper noise when you crank through the comics.

Never played Gen I but I can tell FireRed is rife with quality of life improvements. Enjoyed my time even with the annoyances intrinsic to Pokémon. Love the Gen III graphics. The best evolution of the 2D pixel art games.

Zipper is my favorite game I’ve experienced on the Playdate. Love the aesthetics. Deceptively simple mechanics that are a joy to discover and compelling to master. A gem.

I owned all three Spyro PS1 games but only beat the first and only dabbled with the third. Ripto’s Rage is a fine 3D platformer but is a messier and lesser Spyro sequel. World design and narrative hardly has cohesion. Spyro was also light on both as well, but it had a cogent through line. Level design also took a hit in Ripto, the majority feel far too enclosed and are littered with invisible walls. Having swimmable water and death water that are visually indistinguishable in the same level is a crime. I loved the floating island design of levels in the first game. Areas felt more open and keeping the player in bounds was simple since you’d fall off the edge of the world.

The boss fights ranged from inoffensive to very annoying. Levels resetting so when you revisit to 100% the collectables you have to redo most everything again was an infuriating choice. Don’t get me started on the atrocious mine cart mini games. Gliding isn’t well utilized or challenging. Very inconsistent overall.

I have a great appreciation for the original.

Alan Wake II is everything and more than I expected the original to be. Extremely my shit. A seamless experience. This connected Remedy universe is all I need now. My game of the year.
