Why would Makoto be a TERF? genuine question

@G0dot in my heart of hearts i don’t really think that makoto would be a terf if she were like a real person, but i think in the game she suffers a rigidity of character and insistence on performing gender even despite her own constant worries about being validated for separating herself from normative behaviors. I think it might be better to put her in the I Could Fix Her category though, because a lot of the stuff that gives her terf energy is a symptom of being a character in a persona game, where that kind of attitude is pervasive, and she is just the main character who the vibes fall into the most. a lot of it is unfortunately “idk man she’s got the vibe” which isn’t really an answer either, I do understand. I think there’s a constant tension in persona 5 especially between the characters as they’re set up and the overall attitude of the game not really letting them flourish and while everyone suffers for this I do think Makoto gets some of the worst of it. Also being a liberal and also an aspiring cop is a recipe for being a weird freak towards queer people who cops go out of their way to target, just like, in real life.

ultimately though i didn’t mean for the list to be terribly serious, mostly a joke thing that went off my gut. So while i will always insist that i am always objectively correct, that is also a joke and I didn’t actually think TOO hard about it. i did mean it when i said i love makoto. she is great.

makoto makes me sad cuz they made the coolest persona-user design (and coolest persona) into a fuckin' narc who, after participating in multiple acts of anarchic violence, ultimately decides that "voting and solving the problem from da inside is the real answer..."

she/her pronouns in twitter profile, but still thinks transwomen shouldn't participate in women's sports ass person, if you're going by how hypocritical atlus writes her (still probably my fav persona character if judging just by gameplay/character design tho)

persona 5's biggest problem ultimately is that it correctly identifies the deep rot at the heart of society, that in so many unique industries and situations there is a persistent systemic scenario of normative compliance with abuse and that the systems are designed as a pipeline to not only empower abusers and keep them empowered but to ensure that they are the only kinds of people who will be powerful, and then almost immediately upon making this observation decides that actually it is not systemic, it's a bad actors and bad apples thing and that solving it is as simple as eliminating the problem at the branches rather than the roots.

They still occasionally pay lip service to the idea that there are greater social issues perpetuating these problems but they also decide that the way to help solve those is to stop doing the radical action they've been doing effectively throughout the game and hand over the keys to the kingdom to the same people who created all the problems in the first place. You Simply Have To Trust The System To Work At Some Point, they say out loud at the end of the game when we're all letting Sae Nijima promise that the future will be better.

This hits everybody the same way Persona 4's weird conservative truth hits everybody in that game but Makoto definitely suffers the most obviously for it. On most days I simply pretend that I do not see her rank 10 cop shit. Anathema to me. Poison in my blood.
