this is everything a kanto remake should be. not only is it ran on the amazing engine that ruby, sapphire, and emerald has but it has challenges from the first gen. it also doesn't have any of the awkward bugs and glitches from the first two gens. they also add some additional content, but not too much that to the point where it makes it awkward.

i wanted to like this pokemon game and give it a chance, i really did. call me a pokemon boomer here but i really dislike how easy this game was and how there were barely any challenges. the only challenge to me was tackling fairy pokemon with a team that didn't have critical attacks for that type. it especially shocked me because i just finished pokemon black which has the hardest elite four known to man. the new mega evolution mechanic kinda felt like a cheat. at least in sword and shield every gym leader uses it, but in x and y no gym leaders use it. only lysandre and the champion. so you can pretty much bs your way through the game even more.
even outside of the gameplay, the plot is very boring and the whole environmental focus was 'HEY LOOK WE HAVE ~CLOTHES~ AND ~HAIRSTYLES~ NOW!!' like, it's cool at first but when you hear team flare go off for the billionth time about their fashion sense you're just like 'okay we get it now'.
basically this isn't a pokemon game that i'd replay again. the only good things are the bond the player has with their friend group, professor sycamore, and lastly my son clemont
