Bio
Rating games the same way I rate films. This means a score emphasis on games that push what an interactive narrative can be while mostly leaving the “fun” factor to other reviewers.

A 3/5 doesn’t mean that Breath of the Wild isn’t an incredible achievement from a dev team. But it does mean that after a fascinating 10 hours it started to lose my interest as I grew accustomed to the gameplay loop. If “more of the same fun” is what you’re looking for, I’m sure it could hold your attention for the hundreds of hours I’ve seen other people play, but that isn’t what my reviews focus on.

My reviews are less “how many hours of entertainment will I get from this game” and more “how did this game make me feel?”

In some instances that will be as simple as consistent joy (in multiplayer and “gameplay heavy” games primarily), whereas games that make me think or feel more complex emotions get heavy props in my rating system.

Price, “replay value”. or value as a product aren't factored into these reviews.

Call of the Sea, shallow as a puddle.

A hollow, drawn out recreation of what made Lego games enjoyable.

Having replayed some to check my nostalgia goggles, it’s certainly “deeper” than them in that it abandons the simplicity that made them easily playable, and is a long experience of doing mind-numbing tasks rather than mercifully short and sweet experiences.

Bigger isn’t always better.

The game does run great and look gorgeous on Series X at least, but a dull experience is a dull experience no matter how pretty the backdrop.
