2001

what a fucking game man

what a fucking game
if you like music that ken ishii/underworld/aphex twin would make you'll thoroughly enjoy this game

there's not much to it, and yet there's so much more to it than you realize. in summary, 1999-2001 cyberpunk rave visuals that you can play and it plays like an on-rails lock on shooter that influences the music you hear, selected for each level and orchestrated to it

see the rest for yourself! it's been ported to VR, consoles, and PC!

What can you say about killer7? He was killer7.
This game is such a large can of worms to even describe that I simply will not make an attempt to do so. It's not "trippy whoa funny drugs" or anything, but it's a deeply political arthouse(?) game. when I say suda51 (at his peak) and capcom (at peak 2005 capcom) then you might get a better idea of what you're in for. or you won't, i'm not you, i'm sokky who has played this game for less time than i have spent researching it and taking it in via supplementary media

don't play the ps2 release unless you aggressively love this game and love shitty ports or can't get/don't have/don't want to emulate a gamecube or play backups
otherwise? PC port is servicable enough! it's on steam and it's relatively cheap. a game that demands lots of time spent processing what the hell it's even conveying to you if you care about it, expect multiple playthroughs or read about it. the story is equally as interesting as its music, visuals, and controls.

this game is so fucking underrated, an absolute hidden gem
now, granted, this is based on pure visual aesthetic, game mechanics and the music and doesn't take story into account
this game is a JP only game that so very nearly got localized for a US release, but at the last moment was scrapped. we were only graced with a dialogueless demo of the first level on a ps underground disc and it never saw the light of day.

japanese is not necessary to play this game, the controls are simple but hard to master. a decent number of lets plays exist on youtube for this game now, but i don't think any of them are really pleasant to watch or explain how the game works very well

give it a try! if you like interesting platforming action games with unique controls, this game is possibly up your alley. you bungie and grapple and tether around freely and soar through the air in 2.5d and freeze bugs, then shatter them, with a bit of normal platforming thrown in and a good apocalyptic plot for good measure and an evil counterpart as well. reeks of y2k futuristic vibes. it is a wonderful game with a wonderfully flat ending and an INSANELY hard OST
please enjoy chaindive.

i love this game a lot
and i mean a LOT
but it is so damned clunky and hard to play single player that i might not ever have the strength to solo it but may never be able to have enough friends to give a damn about this game to ever beat it with a full party let alone 2 people
4 stars :(
