I love my roguelikes, I love my synthwave music, and you KNOW I love my boomer shooters. This' all three of those, but there's a concerning undercurrent: all three of these together, plus an orientalist sort of aesthetic being used here? Huh. I'm a LITTLE worried about that combo.

In conclusion: I still don't really know how I feel about it? Sorry, I'm not gonna come to any firm conclusions here. This game is just filled to the brim with red flags I got worried by, but ended up fucking with any way. It still is utilizing the 90s anime aesthetic to an arguably distasteful degree, and has a ton of cynical jokes at the expense of you maybe having nostalgia for that, but it never hits that Borderlands level of tastelessness and self-absorbed writing. Eventually, the overloading of 90s-isms (to the extent it doesn't even make genre-sense) just took me away. They start ranting about virgin blood sacrifices and ancient Old Gods around the halfway point here. That's the only laugh it got from me, but that was well enough to endear me to it.

Still, I guess I'm writing all of this to say I still don't know how I feel about it?

The protagonist is characterized as this hyper-masculine parody I usually find detestable and lacking in interesting substance, but it's combined with this proud infantilization that's just kind of bizarre? Intended as a joke, obviously, and kinda funny! But it's not really that much of a 'joke', just kinda a funny idea to throw around. There's a damsel in distress character that isn't really strongly characterized, but their relationship with the protagonist being non-sexual is at least a fun plus! I like it!

Anyway- actual gameplay talk? You actually wanna hear about this game?

Okay- it's a series of randomly generated boomer-shooter rooms where you run into a guy and shoot him and try not to get shot along the way. The menus are full of overstimulating, meaningless bullshit and anime portrait animations. I like this game overall, I think! A hard recommend from me. Could use some more weapon variety, if I had to make one creative consultant ass complaint here. Even then idk it doesn't matter.
