Oh boy. What were they thinking? Did Nintendo forget that Mario Party is a board game first of all? There are only four boards in total and they are all so small and uninspired. The design of these boards is also pretty bad. You can easily traverse the entire thing in one round and buy stars for only 10 coins. There is barely any strategy to be played. This game is so disappointing.
I'm happy that Nintendo came back to the old formula but this was a very lazy entry in the franchise. The only good thing here are the minigames, and you have 80 of them. Too bad you can only play a handful online tho, the multiplayer advertising was also very misleading.
I hope they make a better Mario Party game soon, building in the foundations of this one. Shame I had to pay for a full game that feels more like a prototype of something that may be good in the future.

A problem I have with a lot of games that come out now is that a lot of entries in some series feel like just “a step in the right direction” instead of an actually good game. I felt the same way with Pokemon Legends Arceus too. Super Mario Party is average. A game that will no doubt be forgotten as it is soon to be superseded by the next Mario Party. This could be said for every other entry in the series, but for the most part it isn’t. People still argue about which is the best entry in the series, and I don’t think I’ll ever hear any points made for this one. It’s fine. I’d just rather play the other games.
Let's start off by saying this: if you have Mario Party Superstars, there is no reason for you to play this.
This game is honestly a 50/50 — it lacks in almost everything content-wise, especially if we talk about boards, but, at the same time, it controls and looks beautifully, other than it finally coming back to the original formula with no cars.

This game is a shame because it has excellent mini games and fun side modes, the makings of a great Mario Party, but it royally screws up the boards. They're awful, they look like those shitty boards from those really bad looking Mario Party games on the 3DS, which is a shame because it was really close to being the return to form the series needed
Super Mario Party is some what a return to form for the series, as the series has been toying around with alternate board structures for nearly a decade Super Mario Party aims to somewhat return the series to it's roots while still keeping fans of the new stuff happy and the results are mixed. Super Mario Party is divided into three modes, a Party mode reminiscent of the classic 64 Mario Party games, a Partner mode reminiscent of Mario Party Star Rush for the 3ds, and a variety of minigame modes. The Party mode is very basic, the 4 boards are small and generally do not have much to differentiate them from each other, coins are plentiful and items are poorly balanced with the Genie Lamp equivalent being the only one worth buying and being very common. Characters now have special dice similar to the exclusive items in Mario Party 7 and like that game they aren't very balanced, Some characters Dice are so overpowered you'd never not want to use them and some are so useless you'd never even bother, the addition of allies means that no character dice is technically off limits, but the balancing issue persists regardless as some characters are more dependent on allies than others. The partner mode is far more fleshed out and an improvement on Star Rushes take on the concept however the same issues of a lack of boards and character imbalance still carry over. The minigames on offer here are very good as the use of the joycon and it's many different functions are on full display, Super Mario Party also has quite a good selection of side modes excluding it's online which is once again disappointing. Super Mario Party tries to please everyone but by doing so none of it's content feels as deep and thought out as games which had a more concrete focus.
