apart from that the sfx department is alright the overall vibe is that of a slice of life with horror twist so the ost isn't gonna go too fucking crazy but it's passable enough youre gonna listen to 3 happy tracks A LOT so have fun sure the voice acting is top notch but I'm pretty sure that's a staple for the japanese industry I've never heard a bad VA in jap if that's even possible and miyuki is definitely a highlight I loved her going slowly buck wild

so this aside as soon as she goes crazy she defies the VN once again and puts you in another loop with less options and your only way to get out is using her phone but it's locked with 10 safety question now this part made me cry because (as miyuki will also let you notice) it's randomly generated and walkthrough don't actually mean shit so you actually have to LISTEN to her something that people never do so why should I so after crying my eyes out you get to call God get out of the loop yada yada
shit happens and you gotta use the phone number to call aoi back and its like a super incredibly long number that needs you to do math like God's number minus the serial number of your version of the game plus the times you came into miyuki which is funny as hell

i dont feel good about saying much on this game bc so few people have played it and i had the benefit of going in nearly 100% blind, and while there are things about it that are incredible that i think no other game has done (narratively and mechanically), and while the writing at its best is incredibly touching and whip-smart, its is a fucking mess and nearly completely undermines itself by the time its finished.

Don't you just hate it when a game railroads you into doing a certain thing to progress on it and then proceeds to try to make you feel bad as if you ever had any say on the matter? It's basically what Totono does in its attempt at deconstructing romance VNs, and it didn't click with me at all. Maybe it's aimed at people who self-insert into the protagonists of the VNs they play or something, but as someone who sees himself as merely an observer through the protagonist's point of view, I didn't feel bad for "cheating" on Miyuki with Aoi after promising I'll be faithful to her, because as far as I was concerned, the one who promised to be faithful to her was that route's version of Shinichi, and the one who went with Aoi never made any promises to Miyuki.
Even if I were to examine my actions as the player, all I did was just follow the path the game was setting up for me and then experimenting with the choices in the second playthrough. Should I feel guilty about that? And most importantly, should I feel sympathetic towards fucking Miyuki? Sure, I may have "cheated" on her, but she literally murders Shinichi, Aoi and even the cat who had nothing to do with any of this without any sort of remorse. She also attemps to gaslight me throughout the rest of the game, she manipulates and negatively affects the lives of everyone else for her own benefit, she's plainly a selfish cunt. I assumed Miyuki was the villain of the game much like Monika was in DDLC, but unlike Monika, Miyuki never takes responsibility for her actions, all she does is blame other people for the shit she pulls off and feels like the writers actually agree with that reasoning, even the ending was unsatisfying as hell because Aoi who hasn't really done anything wrong suffers the biggest consequence by disappearing from the game and everyone's memories, while it's heavily implied that Miyuki and Shinichi will get a happy ending together eventually.
What made me curious to check Totono out was the fact that VN weebs kept talking about how it's the "good version" of DDLC, some even accusing DDLC of ripping this off and shit. Obviously that made me create high expectations, since I liked the concept of DDLC but felt it could have been more fleshed out, but I felt especially let down in this case because DDLC arguably does the whole meta twist thing better than Totono by being more immersive with the files, the random glitches and that kind of stuff, it also has a better antagonist character that the game actually treats as such. Totono was probably the most disappointing VN I've played in a while, and while I wouldn't say it's necessarily bad, it has a handful of interesting moments and ideas, but they're misused for the most part.

A piece of fiction with a central theme that most of everything ties into, and exhausts almost all dimensions of its medium to explore. The theme is that of Commitment and Regret and the way it explores this is through an eroge VN. That said, this game is dripping with so much empathy and emotion while being designed to be engaged with from the single perspective of YOU playing it. Spoiling or divulging anything would be a disservice to it.
Play the JAST USA version or the Director's Cut patched Steam version. Everything in this game is made with a purpose that feeds back into itself, so cutting anything down or out is unimaginable and just isn't the same experience.

Que experiência sofrível é esse jogo, me esforcei muito pra chegar "onde fica bom", tudo pra dropar.
A ideia é excelente como sempre né, o jogo em si é muito bom. Muito melhor que sua comparação principal em Doki-Doki, mas como é um eroge perde pontos instantaneamente comigo. Além disso, é uma visual novel genérica muito chata até chegar em seu clímax e obviamente com bastante merda e culturas reprováveis provenientes da influência otaku japonesa sob o jogo. O "genre shift", pelo que me aparentou por reviews e gameplays é muito funcional e o jeito que o jogo brinca com suas mecânicas e apresenta diversos questionamentos sobre visual novels e seus jogadores é muito criativo. Alguns finais falsos inclusive são até mais interessantes em conceito que o final verdadeiro, chegando a condenar corretamente o jogador, dependendo da forma como o mesmo aborda o jogo e sua história.
Entretanto, não foi pra mim. Não me apeguei a nenhum personagem e não quis prosseguir com o jogo após ser criticado de maneira justa durante o genre shift. Percebi também que foi uma boa escolha, pois iria perder um certo tempo revisitando as memórias da Miyuki sem me importar e consequentemente cairia na crítica do jogo mais uma vez.
Inclusive, eu desgosto da maior parte dos personagens dessa obra, o que colaborou a não terminá-lo. Ao menos a Miyuki funciona melhor que a Monika em Doki-Doki, porém continua nem um pouco crível como personagem que quebra a quarta parede.
