Not my favorite MGS game and highlighted my main gripes with the series. Too many long cutscenes and awkward controls. Really disliked how the second stretch of the game devolved into a number of escort missions. Bosses weren't as memorable or fun as MGS1 or 3. Didn't mind Raiden one way or the other. Wouldn't mind playing again, but not high on my to-do list.

Realmente consiguió hacerme sentir solo, como Raiden. Fueron realmente reconfortantes las pláticas con Rose.

From what I’ve played of the series, the Metal Gear games can be a bitch and a half to play, but god are they wonderful experiences. It doesn't help that i was also using a partially broken PS3 controller to play it, but eh.

Once I get around to MGS3 I’ll have a properly working one. A big problem is the boss battles. They bring out real neat gimmicks and are fun for a couple of minutes, and then they go on for 15 minutes. Each one feels like the biggest bullet sponge in any game I’ve ever seen, It’s almost absurd. Besides that, I like how it continues the story of the first.

I really wish the Otacon ending of the first game was canon, since it would give him a moment of bonding, in the scene where it flashes back to Sniper Wolf, and when his Sister dies, but hey you win some you lose some. I really, really enjoy the relationship between Otacon and Snake in this game, (me being gay probably only slightly influences that), but man the scene where they just fuckin’ hug it out is fantastic, and easily the most emotional scene for me.

I wish you could play as Snake a bit more, cause Raiden is just kind of a limp noodle of a character. He never really feels like he develops much. Also holy shit was the romantic subplot with Rose just the most boring thing possible.

If you ever dare to save, you have to go through this whole soap opera, and fuckin lady i do not give a shit, the entire facility is about to blow up in literally 20 seconds if i do not do something about it, please for the love of god shut up. The ending is also a tad confusing as well. How does the real Rose kinda sorta know what the AI Rose said at the beginning of the mission? Was that the real Rose? I don't know.

Definitely on par with the first game, and the torture sequence is actually bearable this time. No spoon trick needed.

Metal Gear Solid 2 improves upon its predecessor in almost every single respect. From the cramped spaces that accentuate the stealth gameplay, to the atmosphere that adds further believability to the world and the controls, which, while still flawed, are massively better than in the previous title. Everything comes together to create a memorable experience that’s a joy to go back and have again.

I never had the chance to play this game or MGS1 on release and so many parts of both games were spoiled for me. I can’t imagine how I would have felt back in the day about playing as Raiden. However, from my first time playing this and my most recent playthrough, I think changing your overnight iconic protagonist for the sequel is an incredibly bold move and I commend the team for making this choice. Too often, games (and other media) pander to fans and I appreciate it when we can be challenged instead.

Overall, aside from a few tedious moments, I had such a blast with this game that I finished it in two sittings. A true classic that anybody who is interested in the genre should play.

I played a bit of 2, I think it's better than 1 by default. I need to finish it though before I make a complete statement.

A huge improvement on its predecessor, to say the least. Just about everything is tighter here. For one thing, it's visually stunning. The simple addition of analog movement makes basic traversal a lot more manageable. Gameplay is mostly less frustrating, too, with more manageable bosses, and a generally better gameplay loop. However, shooting is a big issue here. The incentive to use first-person mode should theoretically make shooting easier, but it's so awkward and clunky that it's almost just as bad. I also have a few actual problems with the story, chief of which is that I think the ending honestly feels a bit rushed. I also think Solidus isn't quite as memorable of a villain as Liquid. Still, a tremendous achievement, and like I started with, a notable step up from its predecessor.

Everyone wants to eat Raiden's ass, but in HD

Final Rating: 10/10

From start to finish this game is oozing with quality. Classic.

THIS GAME BLEW ME AWAY IN 2020.

I never played the original MGS2, because I never had a PS2 and when I finally got a PS3 my budget was too tight for the HD Collection. Time passed and in 2020 I became addicted to MGSV on PS4. The gameplay was amazing and the whole lore was fascinating to me I wanted to experience more of the series. Because I had no access to MGS1 I started the MGS2 HD Edition streaming on PS Now. And boy I'm glad I went for it.

The game had me hooked from the first minute. At first I thought okay I know Snake I used to play MGS1 on PS1 back in the day, okay cool. Then the twist, who is this new guy? At first I was disappointed because of the character switch but then I was getting used to Raiden and his story seemed intereseting I wanted to know more. All I can say is, the last 20% of the game is the best gaming experience I had in YEARS. I didn't know it was possible that a video game could blow me away like that anymore. I started MGS3 immediately after beating this one. What a ride. I liked 2 a tad bit more. Maybe because of THE twist at the end of the game.

This is an absolute masterpiece and one of my favorite games of all time.

10/10 One of the best games I've ever played

Everyone: "DId tHiS GaMe PRedIcT tHE fUTuRe?!?!?!?!"
Kojima: "hahaha, funny blonde man run around naked."

liquid ate too many tea and crumpets (w game tho)

What the fuck was Kojima on. What an amazing over the top bonkers crazy ass plot.

Really great game. Improves on a lot from the first game. I think it goes a little too hard on the amount of cut scenes. Many times I sat down to play some games before bed and just watched a bunch of cut scenes instead.

Super solid gameplay, great score and good boss fights.

I think I enjoyed the first game more but only slightly. I think the gameplay is better in this but the atmosphere, setting, plot and characters are much better in Metal Gear Solid 1

Better than MGS1 in almost every way and really really fun to play but holy sh*t the cutscenes in this game are long. It’s not so bad from the off but it turns out this game’s ending is infamous for a reason. It was a real turn off to approach the end of the game and have the two climactic boss sequences sandwiched with what felt like an hour of cutscenes and codec conversations. It’s a shame because otherwise the issues the story tackles are interesting and only more relevant today.

My first time playing the HD remaster, 3rd or 4th time playing the game overall. Improved gameplay over the first, but still outdated and hard to go back to. The story is good, but there’s too much of it. There were many long stretches where I barely touched the controller. One platforming section is possibly the worst designed segment I’ve played in any otherwise good game.

But that finale, man. Amazingly prescient to what’s going on now. Kojima delivered a game that certainly has its flaws, but those flaws are largely not what people complained about when the game first came out. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty is a bold, but imperfect game that’s ultimately worth your time.

Kojima is maniac but he also makes good games

Can't say goodbye to yesterday, my friend

Kojima hizo esto en 2001 para que lo juguemos 20 años más tarde y nos demos cuenta de que tenía razón, y eso da miedito.

HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLY SHIT.
Ain't saying shit about this one, go discover by yourself. It's the definition of a masterpiece once you dig deep into the game through youtube essays. The final conversation with the AI it's simply stunning, terrifying, and predicted a lot of our current world's situation. I liked that so much that i'm watching a video of the dialogue once a day.

It's the game that made me decide that Hideo Kojima is someone worth looking into. I'm currently reading his book.
PLAY THIS GAME NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn't even bother playing MGS1. I started with MGS2 in 2012. I ended up playing through and loving the entire series afterwards. They're all phenomenal. I honestly can't really separate them in my mind as I played 2, 3, 4, and Peace Walker all within the same year. They're all equally great to me for different reasons. I love me some Kojima.

I staaAAaaaAaare at the stars and the sky up above...
And think what am I made of?
Am I full of sorrow? Am I hurt and pained?
Or am I filled... with love?
I walk by myself on the streets below
And ask every child I know
"Do you thiiiiIiIiink tomorrow will bring sun or rain?
Which one of these will show?"
I caaaan't say goodbye to yesterday, my friend
I keep holding on 'till the end
Out of the darkness there is nooooo other way
Than the light leading to yesterdaaaaaaay.................
It's there that I'll find
Inner peace not war
And dreeeeeams that I let slip away
I'll find the joyfulness I'm looking for
Way baaaaaaack in yeeeeesterday.................

trilogie mgs fini, merci Kojima pour les travaux

Metal Gear Solid 2 : Sons of Liberty; is an incredibly ingenious espionage story that constantly throws twists and turns at you that has the player re-evaluating and analysing the story differently after its conclusion.

STORY

The player takes the role of Raiden, a spy for an unnamed organization, tasked with infiltrating the "Big Shell", an environmental clean-up site after it is taken over by terrorists and the president is taken hostage. In classic metal gear fashion, the player encounters a squad of larger than life antagonists called DEAD CELL, and the whole story of the terrorist plot, and Raiden's involvement, starts to unravel.

A lot of the story and reveals revolves around the distribution of information in the modern digital world, and is still very relevant today in 2023. I found the story to be very compelling and turned out to be much more than it seemed on the surface, as the whole game of Raiden trying to take down the terrorist's on the Big Shell turned out to be a simulation meticulously crafted by the Patriots to train the ultimate soldier, modelled after Solid Snake during the Shadow Moses Incident.

Then, at the end of the game, it is revealed that the S3 program, thought to train a "Snake-like" soldier, is actually a series of protocols to make certain events happen that would allow the patriots to control humanities free will, thus the human race would evolve into an entirely controllable species. The game ends with the sentiment that every individual decides their own fate, and who they want to be.

GAMEPLAY

The gameplay of MGS2 expands on a lot of systems from the first game, and refines them making stealth very satisfying. The whole game takes place on the Big Shell, and involves the player unlocking more parts of it piece by piece as the game progresses, using key cards to enter new areas, much like the first game. I found the Big Shell to be a good backdrop for the game and enjoyed exploring it. this time around, the player has access to more gadgets and weapons to play with during the game.

VERDICT

I'm sure nostalgia may play a part in why I like the game so much as it was a favourite from my childhood, but I find it to be a brilliant, thought provoking experience full of great characters and moments, to make a game that still holds up excellently today.
