(The adjustments to gameplay like the Swift Sail & greatly resuced Triforce shard quest make the game so much better. Seriously I never beat the original game as a kid becasue of the damn shard hunt. Game looks great in HD, and whether you like the bloom or not is up to preference.)
This game is still one of my favorite Zelda entries despite it's glaring flaws. Ironically it's artstyle is what has allowed it's visuals to age so well over the years despite the initial disdain from fans. Gameplay is solid, but unfortunatley the Great Sea as an overworld can be rather lacking compared to the side content in other entries. The Triforce Shard quest is also still as much of a pain as you remember, they definetley had to rush the ending to cover for the dungeons they weren't able to add (the gimped fire & ice dungeons).

Wind Waker HD resolves pretty much all of the gameplay issues of the original (shortening the Triforce Shards quest) but its hyperbloom graphics actually reduce the overall charm compared to the original. Also being able to instantly swap between TV and Gamepad is A+ gamer shit that the Wii U was ahead of its time in implementing. Notice how the Switch lets you do that for every game? Wind Waker HD walked so the Switch could sprint, baby
This was my first Zelda game and it did
not disappoint. The story is much more linear, however, it is early in the game the world really opens up and you are able to explore pretty much everything. I find it
rewarding to get lost as this led to me finding many secrets. The variety of tools makes it so the game doesn’t feel like it’s being dragged on. The dungeons are clever, especially
the ones where you have to work with other characters. The vibrant colors, fun music, and funny characters make this game even more enjoyable. Despite knowing practically
nothing about Zelda games I still had a solid idea of what was going on.

The game is fantastic whenever you're not sailing, but unfortunately about half the game is about sailing, and it's not very enjoyable. You mostly just watch your boat for 3-5 minutes while doing fetch quests. Too many of the islands or side paths you encounter just give you rupees you don't need. Shame, since the music and art are honestly the best of the entire series.
